STORM CANCELLED: It's official. The CMEs missed. A series of coronal mass ejections expected to hit Earth's magnetic field between May 15th and May 17th did not hit--at least, not directly. When NOAA forecasters said there was a 75% chance of storms, that also meant a 25% chance of no storms. This time the 25% won.

The annual International Space Station marathon viewing season begins later this week, when skywatchers in the Northern Hemisphere can watch up to five ISS passes in one night......

Each year within a few weeks of summer solstice in either hemisphere, the space station’s orbit and Earth’s day–night terminator nearly align. For a few days and nights the Sun never sets on the ISS. Like seeing the "midnight Sun" at the Arctic Circle on the first day of summer, astronauts and their craft bask in sunlight 24/7. The Northern Hemisphere season happens between May and July; southern observers get their turn between November and January. This year's brief season begins on Friday, May 17th, and wraps up on the 20th.

SOLAR CYCLE 24 EXTREME EVENTS--

On 28 August 2017, active region (AR) 12673 emerged on the solar disk; before rotating over the western limb it generated 27 M-class and 4 X-class flares, including the largest of solar cycle 24 (X9.3 on 6 September). Four coronal mass ejections (CMEs) with velocities >1000 km/s and widths >120° were launched from AR 12673, not surprisingly resulting in multiple solar energetic particle (SEP) events observed by near-Earth spacecraft. Of these events, that of 10 September was the largest seen since June 2015 (in >10 MeV proton peak intensities) and one of only two ground-level enhancement (GLE) events of the current cycle. GLE events are extreme SEP events which typically exhibit significantly harder spectra (on average E-3.18) at energies above ~40 MeV; this, combined with their large intensities of >50 MeV/nuc ions, makes GLE events extremely hazardous to exposed astronauts and space-based instrumentation.

If solar winds reach 330km/s g 300km/s in this time (-33 hrs). You should see a quake within 1-6 hours of that event.

SOLAR MINIMUM CONDITIONS ARE IN EFFECT: The sun has been without sunspots for 78 days so far this year--more than half the time. To find a similar number of blank suns, you have to go back to 2009 when the sun was experiencing the deepest solar minimum in a century.

We are already about to get hard. Once the bz And Nt, componets from the Btotal, reach a "Resting Phase", The P Wave, should be Produced, within 4 hrs +\-
We need a continued resting phase of 2+BZ 2-NT, (Btotal), and an
Average speed, between 300km/s, and 330km/s

Then we should ya, have this massive earthquake that I have been tracking all week!

HERE COMES THE TAURID SWARM:

Earth is about to have a close encounter with a meteoroid swarm. In June 2019, the Taurid Swarm will make its closest post-perihelion approach to our planet since 1975. Researchers have long known that the swarm is filled with pebble-sized debris that can cause spectacular fireballs when they hit the atmosphere. Now, evidence is mounting that the swarm may be hiding much larger objects, such as the Tunguska impactor that leveled a forest in Siberia in 1908. Are we in any danger?

Although not a "perfect" prediction (as most aren't), I'm giving credit where credit is deserved...

INTERPLANETARY SHOCK WAVE HITS EARTH: A minor interplanetary shock wave hit Earth on May 26th at approximately 22:00 UT. The CME-like disturbance was unexpected. It caused the density of the solar wind around Earth to abruptly quadruple, while the interplanetary magnetic field doubled in strength. Minor geomagnetic storms are possible on May 27th as our planet passes through the shock wave's wake.

FLAMING WALL OF PLASMA: If you have a solar telescope, point it at the northwestern limb of the sun. A giant flame-shaped wall of plasma is flickering against the black of space.

"It's not as grand as it was two days ago," notes Wise, "but it is still large and bright."

How large is it? The tip of the "flame" is twice as tall as the entire planet Earth--dimensions that make it an easy target for safely-filtered backyard optics.

Contrary to appearances, this prominence is not on fire. Unlike the wick of a burning candle, where oxygen is combined with hydrocarbons to produce light and heat, no combustion takes place inside a solar prominence. Hydrogen-filled prominences glow simply because they are hot (like a stovetop glows red when it gets very hot) and they flicker because their inner magnetic fields are not quite stable.

A WILD DISPLAY OF AIRGLOW: Last week on May 30th, MaryBeth Kiczenski of Munising, Michigan, drove to the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore in search of auroras. A stream of solar wind was buffeting Earth's magnetic field, and Northern Lights were a definite possibility. Instead of auroras, however, "I saw some pretty wild airglow!" she says.

"I was in awe over how surreal it looked!!" says Kiczenski.

Although airglow looks like the aurora borealis, it is not. Auroras are caused by gusts of solar wind. Airglow is caused by a complex assortment of chemical reactions in the upper atmosphere. These reactions get started during daylight hours when the atmosphere is bathed in strong UV radiation from the sun. At night we see the afterglow, colored green by oxygen atoms 90-100 km high or sometimes red by hydroxyl ions 86-87 km high.

Astronomers spot coronal mass ejection on distant star

June 3 (UPI) -- Scientists have for the first time observed a coronal mass ejection, CME, on the surface of a distant star.

Until now, astronomers had only observed coronal mass ejections emanating from our own sun, but data collected by NASA's Chandra X-ray Observatory revealed a powerful eruption exploding from the surface of HR 9024, a distant star.

While surveying Chandra data, astronomers identified an explosion of X-rays followed by a large burst of plasma.
