Geomagnetic conditions have reached moderate storm levels. NOAA Kp is currently equal to 6 (moderate geomagnetic storm, between 12h and 15h UT on Aug 31). The latest K Dourbes measurements are at active levels (K Dourbes = 5). The enhanced geomagnetic conditions are due to a High Speed Stream (HSS) from a recurrent positive polarity coronal hole that passed the central solar meridian a couple of days ago. The solar wind speed has reached speeds approaching 740 km/s (as recorded ACE). The total magnetic field strength had been around 10 nT earlier today but has dropped to 5 nT over the past few hours. Bz has been fluctuating around 0 nT between -9 and +9 nT. Enhanced solar wind speeds are anticipated over the next day until the HSS has passed, and as a consequence periods of elevated geomagnetic activity are expected. :Issued: 2019 Aug 31 1559 UTC :Product: documentation at [ link to www.sidc.be]
