Anonymous Coward User ID: 1252912 United States 03/13/2011 10:59 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Wow. Children should not be exposed to such things so early. Telling them what about the sensations is inappropriate for a 5 year old. I'm of the thought that parents should be the ones to discuss sex with their children, not schools or government agencies. PERSONAL DISCLOSURE: I was exposed to sexuality very young when my two gay uncles died of AIDS. I was inquisitive and asked a lot of questions and as such, I was made aware of safe sex very early on in my life. Having been made so aware of it so young really made me think a lot about it before I was able to engage in the activity itself. Listen to pop music in the 90's, being so young and understanding the music was actually a really weird experience. However, I had my parents there the entire time to explain to me what was going on and how it isn't for little kids. When I came of age, my parent's drilled it into my head that abstinence is the best option for preventing any unwanted anything. They were also very open in that they were always there to buy condoms should I ever want to experiment. They treated me with respect and let me make my own decisions, but most importantly they were ready to hold me ACCOUNTABLE for the mistakes I made. They made it clear that if any accidents were to happen that I would not receive help from them, and that was our agreement. I dated a girl, lost my virginity, and kinda lost interest. Hooking up is just not attractive to me. Had a few more girlfriends from 15-17, didn't really do anything, didn't get laid, just kinda tried to find someone I clicked with. Nobody really clicked, because NOBODY wanted to get to know anybody, it was all just hooking up, and again, you can look to the media. All the Brittneys and the Lohans and the Beibers are oversexualizing children and adolescents. Movies too, it's all about getting laid, it's all about hooking up, never anything meaningful. And then, at 17, it dawned on me. None of these kids had ever talked to their parents about sex. None of them had gotten advice that was not based out of a textbook. They all got euphemisms and media as their guide. They never got the truth. So what's the point? Parents now are fucking pussies when it comes to their kids. They don't understand that the only way to explain things to kids is to relate their experiences to what the kids are exploring in the world. They treat sex like it is something that their child will never experience, and they never listen, they are either too lenient and don't check on their kids, or they are too strict and control their children to the point of rebellion. Parents have to realize their kids are going to do what their kids are going to do, and they should guide them but never force them. They also most certainly should not be encouraging the schools to teach sex ed if they themselves are not confident that they have proficiently explained the subject to their children. All the sex ed classes I went into (Utah 5th grade, North Carolina 10th grade, California 11th grade) were a complete waste of time or borderline indoctrination session. Utah was, as expected the most basic of all of them, it was just very general anatomy of the sexes. North Carolina was an attempt at indoctrination to an abstinence only point of view, (which hella doesn't work). They gave hugely biased facts, attempted to teach orientation instead of just teaching facts, and they engaged in a really fucked up game in which one kid "got AIDS" which of course was me (funny thing, my fiancee, who went to the same school and had sex ed at the same time, also "got AIDS" in her class). As far as California sex ed went, they basically laid it out like a college orientation and just asked us not to do it at school. They had a bucket full of condoms at the front of the class, which were mostly gone after the session was over. |
