China Mobile mass text: Stop panic buying of SALT and report anyone who does to the authorities!
[link to www.latimes.com]

I'm an expat in Taiyuan, Shanxi. Yesterday I received word of panic buying of iodized salt in this city. Pulled this link from the L.A. Times this morning. Around noon received a mass text stating the above message sent in Chinese to my mobile phone. The text said not to believe false rumors, and that China has enough salt for all.

People don't queue here. Trying to get on a bus, buying a train ticket, ordering food at a KFC, registering with the nurse at any local hospital, or purchasing from a convenience store involves pushing and shoving. If you don't stand nut to butt with the person in front of you, thrusting your money out at arms length, someone will forcefully wedge between you, and you will lose your place in the battle to do your transaction.

This Reuters photo could be at any event involving a transaction in this city, not necessarily (in this case) the panic buying of salt at a wholesale market.

Coincidentally, I just received a shipment of 12 three-pound boxes of kosher salt yesterday. Suddenly I feel rich!

You must be new here. After a while, it makes more sense the sheeple queing that westerners engage in.

I've been working in Japan, China and S.Korea for more than 10 years. Tell me how it makes more sense having to rub my nuts against the person in front of me, or get elbowed in the ribs by granny to get something than it is to be civil.
