I can't believe what is going on in the media at the moment and it just doesn't make any sense to me. So Gaddafi must go allegedly because he's killing his own people in huge numbers and the UK and others have to intervene to stop the mass slaughtering of innocent people and help the rebels.
Hang on just a second, let's imagine if this situation was happening in the UK. Let's say a rogue element of the military got together with some students and others , and because of the financial situation of the UK and rising unemployment , they decided to take a stand and take over a major city e.g. Manchester. So some tanks and a few thousand armed people march into Manchester guns blazing etc and take over control of the city. What do you think the British Government would do?.
Well the army would be called in to crush these so called "rebels" and many of the rebels would be killed as a result, some civilian life may be lost in the process of restoring order too. Would the International community then condemn the actions of David Cameron in killing his own people, issue UN resolutions / embargos on the UK and support the rebels cause?. I think this would be unlikely to say the least. Would the UN and others talk about how the people have spoken and it's time for change? of course not.
So given all this what is the justification to go into Libya for regime change or to protect the people. Who are the aggressors here, the rebels, the Libyan government or NATO/UN?. |
