God uses "fire" to purify us, not destroy us. Throughout the bible, fire is used as a symbol of difficulties - as Peter says, our "fiery trials and tribulations".
We can either face these crises now, voluntarily, or later under not-so-accommodating circumstances. Either way, the end result is refined jewels, custom-made by the Father, and so shiny that they reflect His image to who(m)ever sees them.
