That's good news, robots are what we need to work in that environment. Heck, they probably designed and built them in the time since this disaster started. The Germans are good!

That's logistics for ya, a dollar short and a day late.

Love it... let's see how bad it really gets, no no no, really really gets... okay, it looks pretty bad, but let's WAIT until it gets really really bad... then we'll talk about it and agree if it's really that bad. If it ends up being really that bad, then let's make a plan to discuss what to do, then let's just wait.

When was the appropriate time to go in and put that cigarette out? When it falls out of the ash tray? No. When the couch catches fire? Nah. When the curtains go up? Nope. Let's just wait until the whole thing burns to the ground, then let's put that baby out. What's the world waiting for, the 911 call? It ain't coming bitches.

Robots will only be able to do the cleanup work that easily accessible. Eventually humans will be needed for the damaged areas that a robot could get stuck in.

These robots will have to be destroyed and buried when their work is completed. They need to establish a nuclear graveyard where they can bury all of the machinery used for this cleanup. Sadly they'll probably just sink it into some deep trench in the Pacific and use a nuke to cover it up on the bottom.

Imagine a robot with "feet" all the way around it (as a sphere), designed to push and squeeze itself through a wide variety of spaces. And with some special purpose tools to do specific needed tasks there. Done right, a robot could be more maneuverable than a human, and we have years of top universities and some companies working on robotics.

Of course the robot would be destroyed (or encased in shielding glass and put in a museum) afterwards.

I must say I cannot understand this apparently irrational behavior on the part of Kan and/or TEPCO. I know some Japanese and they're fairly normal people, no less normal than the rest. I would not ascribe such reticence to some exotic characteristic of Japanese culture.

Maybe some weapons development was going on at the site.

Re: ***BREAKING*** USMC unit specializing in emergency nuclear response being deployed to Japan, to arrive Friday
They should be renamed to "kinda-emergency response team" if they are just now being sent. Seriously, what's the point in sending them now? Is Japan running out of people to radiate or something? Fill that bitch with cement or just drop a MOAB on those reactors and call it a day. Spraying it with garden hoses obviously isn't working guys.

Why are the Japanese choosing now to drop the ball on all the crazy shit they come up with? They have holograms that perform sold-out concerts, but they can't stop a reactor from melting down? Holograms for Christ sake!!!

From the article-
There are right now two plutonium remediation technologies on offer to the Japanese government and TEPCO that I know about one from Russia and one from the USA.

One approach uses nanotech and the other uses biotech but both are novel and unique.

Both have been offered to the Japanese through government channels and in both cases the Japanese government or TEPCO have yet to respond.

Günther Oettinger, Europe's energy commissioner, said: "There is talk of an apocalypse and I think the word is particularly well chosen. Practically everything is out of control. I cannot exclude the worst in the hours and days to come."

You know where the fallout is drifting to?
That is right the US of A!

I live in Japan and would be well away from here except for the fact that the wind is blowing west to east!

Now if you are all concerned then I would be asking your local mayors, governers and senators to rush in and help end this crisis now

DAMN IT!!! I have noticed nuke scientists don't have much of an imagination regarding their worst case scenarios. Maybe what is an "apocalypse" to them is not what it is to us? We can only pray it does not.

No doubt for a little live fire training for the inevitable deployment within the states after a "nuclear accident" here.

I was thinking the same thing, when I learned of the Fukushima emergency plan on the news this afternoon. A fax machine, a stretcher and 50 protective suits.

[link to www.google.com]

Which then reminded me of the plan for BP and the GOM, involving 'Walruses' ?

Which then brings me back to how all these 'plans' are on paper only. There seems to be very little 'thought' involved.

Re: ***BREAKING*** USMC unit specializing in emergency nuclear response being deployed to Japan, to arrive Friday
200 tons of water are being dumped on the reactors every day. We all know its becoming radioactive, steaming into the air and pouring into the sea. You CANNOT encase almost 400 tons of molten radio-active material in reactors in concrete in its present state. The massive heat build up inside the concrete containment shell (sarcophagus) would produce a cataclismic explosion (see chernobyl youtube-corium leaching into water theory-they said Europe would have become a wasteland from the neuclear explosion). Bombing the reactors is even worse, if thats possible (radio-active fallout driven miles high into the atmosphere to be driven by jet-stream winds). I hate to say it, but I have been giving my wife and kids big hugs lately - (I have not told them of my fears), because I truely believe, that as this plays out over the next months (yes, this catastrophe will take months, if not years to play out), this is going to change their hopes and dreams forever. I dont care about myself. I am old and done. Tragicaly, we as a world may have failed to protect our most precious asset, our children.
