Anonymous Coward User ID: 1325085 United States 04/07/2011 11:55 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | It would be like - and look much like - a small nuclear explosion if it hits land with most of its size intact. The relative speed difference between it and Earth is about 10 miles per second, or around 36,000 mph or so. It would scream through the densest 20 miles of our atmosphere in 2 seconds. If it's 34 meters, that's the size of a medium-sized office building. That would probably destroy at least a small city if not a medium one. If it hits water, depending on how much mass survives the descent, it could cause a good-sized but localized tidal wave. It could do a Tunguska on us too, and explode in the air. If it did that then it might simply blow down a city and set hundreds or thousands of acres on fire, something like that. Hopefully it will miss us. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1269390You're thinking of comets. But some scientists dispute the idea that many comets are iceballs. Nobody knows what this thing is made of, but I think this just came around the Sun so I doubt it has any unmelted volatiles left, whatever it is. Main thing is, if you see it, and it doesn't appear to be moving, just growing larger...RUN! |
