Some things to try:

MalwareBytes - effective Malware remover, download and scan

Manually try to remove - Click Start > Run > Type MSCONFIG > look at the bottom of the list for something that looks malicious. (Does not reference any known Software on your computer ie Microsoft, HP, Logitech, etc)

HiJackThis - More advanced tool to find malicious code attached to your browser.. kind of have to know what you're looking for with this one, reading the Help file highly encouraged.

Best of luck to you, I know how annoying that shit is.

Hi, if you have already rebooted your machine a system restore won't work. Download malwarebytes from malwarebytes.org. It will probably prompt you to download it from majorgeeks.com or cnet. Just install and run, that should do it. Let me know how you get on.

If it's redirecting, it'll likely do the same if you search or try to go to antivirus/malware removal sites. You may have to start in safemode with network access or even find a linux distro and boot from CD and go from there.

He's got a point there. If it's redirecting you every time then give me your email address and I can send you the setup file. (assuming you use a mail client like outlook, windows live)

No. Heh.

You're already in over your head. :)

Malwarebytes is nice but didn't get rid of one particular redirect I had. Some of this shit is nasty. Seriously, the scum that makes these things and infects people's machines with their crap should be put to death.

Try what I had suggested earlier:

1. Click Start
2. Click Run
3. Type msconfig
4. Press Enter
5. Click the Startup Tab

Look at the last few entries for anything suspicious, if you're not sure, post it here

What to look for: You're looking for a Startup Item that doesn't seem to belong, may have Manufacturer listed as Unknown, with gibberish listed under the Startup Item field.

Something has probably altered your hosts file.

C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc

Open up "hosts" in notepad.

The bottom lines are the important ones, a normal hosts will read

# localhost name resolution is handled within DNS itself.
# 127.0.0.1 localhost
# ::1 localhost

If you have additional below that, it means certain domains will resolve to the IP it is set to, eg you could make Google take you to another website

To be fair if he's unsure what browser he's using it's unlikely he'll figure that out (no offense). Just try and start the browser in safe mode as mentioned - perfectly harmless. If you're using Vista then just type iexplore -extoff in the white bar above the start button and press enter (the start button is the round one in the left hand corner.

DNS uses the host file to resolve names to IP address. It's a bit like an A - record. There will be something in the registry most likely that doing the re-directing.

Again dude, you're on the same timeline as me so if you want I can have a look at your machine but it will have to be before four this afternoon. Last offer.

What I meant was, the browser doesn't use the host file directly, DNS does. Sorry mate.
