Sarasota,Florida: NEW: Shawn Tyson, 16, charged in killing of 2 British tourists | |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 1323633 United States 04/18/2011 02:09 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | SARASOTA - The teenager accused of killing two British tourists is Shawn Tyson, a 16-year-old who lives two blocks from the murder scene, according to records obtained by the Herald-Tribune. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1275713The murder arrests were Tyson's second in nine days, as records show he was charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon on April 8. SEE HIS PIC + INFO [link to www.heraldtribune.com] Sarasota is not a dangerous particularly city. I think these were the 2nd and 3rd murders this year. I feel bad for the victims family and friends. Question: What in the world were they doing walking around a public housing project 12 miles from where they were staying at 3AM?! I'm NOT trying to demean them or in ANY WAY saying they deserved what happened...just very curious. Police say they found no drugs and only small amounts of cash on the two victims. They were shot with a TEC 9 [deadly but cheap-ass semi-auto 'pistol' that can shoot auto. A Brazilian company used to make them, think they stopped making them. Very prone to jamming.] Police found 20 shell casings around the bodies. This POS should be executed but of course because of his age he won't, and I wouldn't doubt if many Brits and Euros would come to his defense[!] if he were given a death sentence. SAD story all around. That's sad. They were most likely walking because I hear Europeans don't believe in using cars. 12 miles is a long way, maybe took a cab somewhere or had friends drop them and thought they could walk back. Maybe people in Europe walk 12 miles one way to places. |

What a shit hole if you get shot for just doing that. Sort your gun laws out..This was just crazy. |

What a shit hole if you get shot for just doing that. Sort your gun laws out..This was just crazy. My friend: The American state with the LEAST gun control is Vermont, in northern New England. Everybody owns firearms. Everybody hunts. It has the lowest [along with the other northern New England states of New Hampshire and Maine] violent crime rates in America. Murders are VERY rare. Shootings are rare. You'd be safer there then in England. It's not the guns [guns=are not evil, bad, they're inanimate objects] it's DEMOGRAPHICS. Why is this so hard for most Brits and Europeans to comprehend? I always here how 'Sophisticated' and super-intelligent they are compared to Americans. MOST violent crime i n the United States is due to DEMOGRAPHICS not LEGAL gun ownership. |

You KNOW you're in a 'Bad' par of town. But you're right, in other parts of the U.S., where construction is newer, like Florida and out west, many 'Bad' neighborhoods don't look bad, not just to Brits but to Americans from the northeast or midwest states also. Actually, even today in northeast cities where I live, many of the 'Bad' neighborhoods, the housing projects [British; Estates] have been all fixed and made pretty, burned out buildings fixed up, etc., and they don't really look old school ghetto anymore like they did 20-30 years ago. They should have been able to get stuff like weed in the tourist area they were, they made a HUGE mistake going out to a housing project...at 3AM! Would you go roaming around a housing estate in England you weren't from or didn't live in at 3AM? |

Burglarized twice. ALL by black youths and they all got a slap on the wrist. Two of them are now dead as they were killed by others of their own race. I am now one of the many whites who have no use for the black race in general. A white person takes their life in their own hands if they go out after dark in most cities... Visitors to the USA best be on guard.. The Africans sleep all day and roam the streets after dark robbing and killing. . |

It's not a small island off the coast of Europe. The U.S. even with 310+ million people is sparsely populated compared to for example the UK or western Europe. Rural people customarily own and use firearms for obvious reasons, including the fact police may often be a 1 hour phone call away, hunting, etc., You seen to be under the assumption firearm laws and ownership is consistent across the U.S.; it's not. The U.S. is far less centralized than European countries or the UK. Each state, even many municipalities and counties, have their own laws [or no laws], restrictions, regulations, in addition to federal [central government] laws. Some place like NYC, Chicago ban almost everything, even airguns. NYC won't even legally allow airsoft toy guns unless they're clear plastic with an orange tip [unless of course you're a politician or famous person, businessperson with connections, then you can get a firearms permit no problem.] The same holds true for capital punishment. It differs state to state. My state outlawed the death penalty in 1948-49. Some states haven't executed anyone since the 1930's. Other state shave it on the books but rarely impose it. Some states do execute, but after many appeals that go on for years. The federal government does have capital punishment for some federal crimes [the U.S. has two main court systems: federal for federal laws, prosecuted by a federal U.S. Attorney General, and local/state for state laws, prosecuted by state D.A. / District Attorney.] I know this is very confusing to most non-Americans, especially Europeans, but again the U.S. is much less centralized than the typical European country or the UK. |

No it is entirely too easy to buy firearms and you have a lot of blackmarket sales from years of idiot hicks bitching and getting led by the NRA to keep all kinds of people killing weapons(not hunting rifles...ar's etc, ak's, all manner of small pistol). Canada has just as high ownership of weapons per capita as many areas of the United States yet they have infinitely lower murder rates and far less incidents of children killing people. Maybe this will help us keep the visitors away! When I was younger I used to get a chuckle when I would go to Europe and talk to younger (20ish) Europeans about the states. They would talk about just hopping an overnight bus from NYC to LA since it was cheaper than flying! Sheesh ... and those were the college educated ones! (hint it's about a 5 day bus trip if you on the bus and moving 24 hours a day - talk about being a total smelly person at the end of that kind of trip!) ANYTIME you travel one needs to check with the hotel/motel etc., to see what places in the local area are safe, what are not, and the times that places are safe. Doesn't make any difference if one is in Hong Kong, Sydney, London, Paris, Moscow ... or in this case Sarasota. These tourists were obviously in over their heads and didn't even take basic personal safety precautions that my (city) kids learned when they were 8 yars old. |

Canada is much more centralized compared to the U.S. [probably because the population is far smaller.] Canada has a FAR SMALLER proportion of black males in their population compared to the U.S. Black males commit MOST gun crime in the U.S., even most murders in general [google FBI and DOJ statistics] The areas of the U.S with demographics identical to most of Canada [white, white/Asian] have very similar crime statistics, including gun crime and murders. The U.S. is more diverse regarding black vs White compared to Canad, UK or certainly Europe. MUCH MORE. Does this answer your question? |
Victim's friend User ID: 68498 United Kingdom 04/18/2011 03:17 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Like most things in life - this was a culmination of many bad things: 1/ The victims were in the wrong place at the wrong time - they probably made a stupid decision or 2 that night - but what ever happened - I'm sure it was down to the their innocence & lack of awareness. 2/ The perpatrator was also in the wrong place at the wrong time but they probably make stupid decisions on a daily basis. 3/ Easy access to guns. 4/ Poverty. 5/ Low levels of education. Easy access to guns + poverty + low levels of education = common place fatal violent crime. Easy access to guns + prosperity + high levels of education = minimal fatal violent crime. No access to guns + poverty + low levels of education = minimal violent crime. Obviously guns aren't the only problem but mix them with poverty + low levels of education & you get a fatal cocktail. This is where Brit's come from when we think Americans are crazy to allow easy access to guns. Brit's are no smarter that Americans or vice versa ... but fortunately for us we don't have a constitution that's a relic of the the 1800's. Removing easy access to guns has gotta be easier than fixing + poverty + education problems - so it has gotta make sense to get rid of them. A high profile national amnesty promoted by celebs & sports stars that young kids can look up to would probably rid the US of 90% of the guns on the street. That combined with making possesion of a gun a criminal offense with a obligitory jail term attached could make this happen within 1 year. No-one can help feeling sorry for the victims & their family & friends but we should also feel sorry for the perpatrator - I very much doubt he/she had the same life chances as the victims. |

Their crime rates are not near as bad as other places with similar poverty levels, that are much more diverse. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 1323627 United States 04/18/2011 03:34 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Poverty is a leftard red herring to try and explain away crimes by certain groups. There are poor people all over the place that are not committing crimes. Please note, Mr. Englishman, that the people who inhabit the projects, get the welfare benefits usually have the latest iPods, clothing, etc. and drive new vehicles that a lot of us working slobs can't afford. No. It isn't about poverty. Yes, you took guns away. Now you have a knife problem. What are you going to do? Outlaw steak knives? That's not going to fix the problems in Britain. I guess Operation Trident tries but there is only so much they can do. After knives, I guess the English will outlaw chairs, umbrellas, vases, ball bats....anything of length and that has a weight of more than two pounds or so since you never know what can be a weapon. |

Please notice the SUVs parked by the 'Public' [taxpayer/public subsidized housing] housing project. Please note 'Poor' kids get 'Free' education, HEAVILY subsidized housing in both 'Projects' and more commonly with housing vouchers. 'Poor' people get heavily subsidized food through various programs, including food stamps [credit loaded onto a debit card used for buying food]. 'Poor' people get heavily subsidized, even in some cases, free healthcare [Medicaid, various other programs]. 'Poor' people get $$$ through various programs including to but not limited to welfare [dole' not unemployment, that's different] S.S.I. [AKA Crazy check...google 'Crazy Check'] etc., 'Poor' people get A LOT of entitlements and benefits in the U.S. I believe you, like most Brits and Europeans, are just ignorant of the true facts. The U.S. is basically just s socialized as the U.S. And we've had 'Affirmative Action' AKA Reverse Discrimination that FAVORS certain preferred and legally protected 'Minority' groups in the U.S. for almost 1/2 century. So MOST of what you've said doesn't hold up. What does hold up is 1/2 century and more of social experimentation and generous social welfare entitlements hasn't had a net positive result for SOME 'Poor' people. You Brits and Europeans are too PC to admit the ugly truth. And again, guns ARE NOT 'incredibly' easy to obtain in most of the U.S., and in fact are heavily regulated and restricted. Some jurisdictions get away with outright banning them. Don't believe everything you see in video games, movies and TV my friend. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 1333492 United Kingdom 04/18/2011 03:39 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | SARASOTA - The teenager accused of killing two British tourists is Shawn Tyson, a 16-year-old who lives two blocks from the murder scene, according to records obtained by the Herald-Tribune. Its no deal to go away abroad and walk a fair bit especially to get a feel for a country and its surroundings. What a shit hole if you get shot for just doing that. Sort your gun laws out..This was just crazy. are you fucking serious? this is down to those two men. they put themselves in that situation. try going around Toxteth, or Brixton that time in the night and see what happens! ffs we've all watched the first 48 and yes, the fucker SHOULD be put to death, no matter his age. it's unfortunate he won't be. |
Anonymous Coward (OP) User ID: 1275713 United States 04/18/2011 03:40 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Like most things in life - this was a culmination of many bad things: Quoting: Victim's friend 684981/ The victims were in the wrong place at the wrong time - they probably made a stupid decision or 2 that night - but what ever happened - I'm sure it was down to the their innocence & lack of awareness. Poverty has nothing to do with it. West Virginia is one of the poorest states in the union and it's also one of the whitest. Their crime rates are not near as bad as other places with similar poverty levels, that are much more diverse. AGREED. Northern New England [Maine, northern New Hampshire, Vermont] ARE NOT wealthy areas....many 'Poor' people, and widespread gun ownership. Yet, the lowest crime rates in America. But they have very small 'Minority' populations also. Any connection? What do you Brits and Europeans [and leftist Canadians] think? |

Is it capitalism ? Is it geography ? Or all of the above ? I refuse to believe we can blame this on the colour of someones skin - although it's an easy conclusion to come to - we have gotta see past the obvious or we'll never fix it. Hitler loved to blame all of Germany's problems on the Jews & tried to kill them all ... it didn't work & blaming violent crime on black people won't fix America's problems. |

SUB-CULTURE of especially one particular demographic who have not been held to the same standards of the general population for many, many years and have been the center of social engineering. What's skin color have to do with? Nothing. Why is used as an excuse by many? Why is it tolerated? Why are many whites in the U.S., UK, Europe 'Afraid' to to mention race when there's an obviously painful [if superficial] connection? |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1270082This 'Class' was created through social engineering. Females were encouraged to give birth to children with no father, and the more they had, the more goodies they got [as long as they didn't live with or marry the dad.] What a deal! |
Anonymous Coward (OP) User ID: 1275713 United States 04/18/2011 03:59 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | There is a similar white under-class, it just isn't at nearly the same level as the black under-class. Over 70% of black children are born out of wedlock, and most live with a mom but no dad. A deliberately socially engineered matriarchal society. Nice results? |
