All it takes to shut down the US is an attack on pipelines and refineries, maybe blow up a bridges and server farms, too, for good measure. There is no way to secure the US critical infrastructure from an attack like this. Every power plant - hyrdro, nuclear, wind - requires an oil backup because they cannot self-generate power to run the opps. This is why it is stupid to go the WW3 route. It is naive to assume that there will not be blowback on American soil, especially given the hatred most ME countries have for the US.

I used the plural form of refinery and pipeline. Hit several at three strategic places at the same time - Loiusiana, Texas and California - and take out bridges and highways leading up to a few of these refineries and it is all over for the US. The US could turn the ME into green glass in retaliation, but that isn't going solve the problem in the US if there was a major attack on infrastructure as everyone scrambles to keep the NPPs from Fukushima status.

Diplomacy is the best option. This isn't conventional warfare anymore and the world is sick of US aggression. The US is too exposed. Everyone wishing for WW3 is a traitor to their own country because there will be blowback that is going to destroy the economy and the environment in the US while potentially killing millions of Americans from the fallout of a collapsed society. Maybe you have your bugout plan and your underground bunker, but what's the point of living if everything you loved is destroyed? Is it WW3 really worth it?

Perhaps we need to make GLP more Godlike than Satanlike because regardless of your perception of God, the Creator didn't give us life on this beautiful planet to have it destroyed by soulless men with nuclear and chemical toys.
