Put yourself in China's shoes. China's population in 1950 was 540 million. In 1976 population hit 940 million. This wasn't sustainable so China introduced a two child policy in the 70s. In 1980s China adopted a one child policy. This averted overpopulation crisis.

1950 the average Chinese woman had 5.2 kids
1965 it was 6.1 kids.
1970 it was 6.3 kids.
Now China puts the brakes on this...
1975 it was 4.8 kids.
1980 was 3 kids.
1995 was 1.8 kids
2005 was 1.6 kids.

What are future consequences of this? It causes a demographic bottleneck. Going from 6 kids down to 2 kids per family.... you do that math. Eventually China has ALOT of old ppl w/ few ynger ppl to support them. By 2050 around 1/3 of China will be ppl over 60. This is unsustainable.

What to do? China dropped the one child policy a few years ago. China is begging ppl to have 2 kids now, but the one child policy worked too well and ppl are stubborn to change. What to do then?!Euthanize the elderly or ppl w/ pre-existing conditions? That would ease up the burden, but cause enough outrage to threaten the Communist party's power.

What would be ideal for China? A highly contagious virus that kills the elderly and spares younger ppl. How to do that? Create a highly contagious virus w/ a long incubation period, make sure it can spread asymptotically, and engineer it to cause pneumonia in elderly or ppl w/ breathing problems. This is cruel but the aging Chinese population and shrinking workforce threatens future plans, and China has shown it will sacrifice tens of millions of her own citizens to make government plans happen.

Was the coronavirus made by China? Possibly. We know China has the means, and I just explained their motive. Was it released on purpose? Probably not. China's unprecedented reaction shows they knew what was in this Pandora's box soon as it opened. China was probably tinkering w/ this virus and had no intentions of releasing it for a few more decades. Think of it as their insurance card against the coming tidal wave of aging population. Out w/ the old, in w/ the new.
