Galveston underwater 6000 dead Sept. 8th
On Sept. 8, 1900, virtually the entire island of Galveston was underwater. The killer storm had moved west from Cuba, past the tip of Florida and strengthened as it churned through the Gulf of Mexico as shown in map above. The hurricane hit Galveston in the late afternoon on Saturday, September 8th, and did not vanish until midnight! Winds reached up to 130 miles per hour, and a storm wave said to be "nearly five feet high" demolished nearly the entire city.

The reason for the approximate 6000 deaths in Galveston, and the approximate 2000 deaths elsewhere is that there was no evacuation, because this category-4 storm caught people by surprise. There was not an outside warning, and the populace did not recognize early, local indicators. Ironically, as the storm approached, many people gathered at the beach to watch the high waves.

It left 1,000 survivors naked and 5,000 more bruised and battered. In a 1,500-acre area of total destruction, 2,636 houses-nearly half the homes in the city-were swept out of existence. Elsewhere, at least 1,000 more were reduced to wreckage. Not a single building escaped damage. To sum it up On Sunday, September 9th, Galveston was "a city of wrecked homes and streets choked with debris and six thousand corpses. It was a city whose very cemeteries had been emptied of their dead as if to receive new tenants."

If the New Orleans people were being "punished" by a vengeful god on Monday, then Houston should be hit by next weekīs hurricane. Itīs gotta happen because all those New Orleans sinners have moved their voodoo to the Astrodome.

I predict - Houston gets hit on September 8, 2005

"It´s gotta happen because all those New Orleans sinners have moved their voodoo to the Astrodome."

I doubt that the "voodoo people" will be the cause of a hurrican in retribution for this evil. Most of the folks at the Astrodome are Christians. Didnīt you read the thread where they were singing Gospel songs in the Superdome?

Houston is not comparable to New Orleans. Houston is far enough in-land that we wonīt drowned here. We have no Mississippi river and no Lake Pontchartrain. We are not below sea level.

Oh, we flood here, weīve had several disasterous floods in the past few decades. We had a 100 year flood event in June of 2001. But the water does not sit for days on end. The water goes down. We help each other with cleaning up the mess and start living again. And since that flood many flood control projects have been built to help handle potential flooding better.

Bad things could happen here in the near future, sure. It is always best to have a plan just in case. However, whatever happens when or if it happens will not be the result of Voodoo Bullshit, or the wrath the desert jen allah, or whatever.

What was the worst storm to hit Corpus Christi?

Hurricane Celia in 1970 was the last direct hit.

Celia killed 31 people and cause 466 injuries.

To the people who experienced Celia, it was a storm they will never forget. The wind gusts were confined to small areas "looking almost like a tigerīs claw" over the city of Corpus Christi. One man, in his description of the wind burst, stated the sound of the gust was "like a giant hammer hitting the building."
