Jordan opposition marches condemn Israel, call for reform

AMMAN, June 3 (KUNA) -- Parliamentarians and trade unions across Jordan carried out several demonstrations on Friday condemning the Israeli occupation of the Palestinian territories, while calling for political and economic reforms in their country.

They called on the international community to bear responsibility in ending the occupation and to allow the Palestinians an independent state, with Jerusalem as its capital.

Another demonstration outside the Israeli Embassy in Amman called for the embassy to be closed and its ambassador extradited, as well as the annulment of the Jordanian-Israeli peace initiative signed in 1994.

Israeli forces evict Khirbet Yarza residents

RAMALLAH: Israeli forces on Wednesday ordered the residents of West Bank village of Khirbet Yarza, to the southeast of Jenin, to leave their homes due to a military drill in the area.

Ahmed Al-As'aad, the Palestinian official monitoring settler activity in the Jordan Valley, said that the Israeli Civil Administration, a military department responsible for the coordination of civil affairs in the West Bank, arrived at Khirbet Yarza and forced the residents to leave their village to a nearby area.

Mokhles Masa’ed, the head of Khirbet Yarza village’s council, said the Israeli forces declared the village a closed military zone to prevent the residents from protesting against the evacuation.
