FAA issues No Fly Zones due to hazards? Media Blackout? Two Nebraska Nuclear Plants Partially Submerged by Missouri Floodwaters Quoting: deathr0June 17, 2011 Ignored by the Mainstream Media two nuclear power facilities in Nebraska which were designated temporary restricted no fly zones by the FAA in early June due to ‘hazards’. The FAA restrictions, ‘effectively immediately’, ‘until further notice’. The Ft. Calhoun Nuclear Power Plant, currently sandbagged against the floodwaters of the Missouri River, and, the Cooper Nuclear Station, located on the Missouri River. According to the NRC, there’s no need to panic. If so, then why the No Fly Zones due to ‘hazards’ issued by the FAA? Video footage from local intrepid news reporters who chartered a boat to survey the Ft. Calhoun Nuclear Power Plant, KMZB Action News: Video news report from local NBC 6 on the Ft. Calhoun Power Plant and the massive amount of farm land flooded by the Missouri River. According to a local farmer worried about the levees, ‘We need the Corps-Army Corps of Engineers–to do more. The Corps needs to tell us what to do and where to go. This is not mother nature, this is manmade.’ On June 6, 2011, the report from Action Three News, Worst Case Scenario Leaves Huge Piece of Omaha Under Water: Omaha, NE – Homes and businesses north of Ames, east of Florence Boulevard and east of South 16th Street are at risk for flooding if the north Omaha levee breaks. The Qwest Center, Gallup Campus, North Omaha Power Plant and all of Eppley Airfield would be affected. That’s about 2,700 people the city would have to evacuate. Thanks for giving us info that msm hasn't touched Even though officials are confident in the levees through Omaha, they still want people to know about the risk and be prepared for the worst case scenario. City leaders say the worst case would put a huge part of northeast Omaha in up to 10 feet of water. This is one of many reasons why officials monitor it so closely. On June 6, 2011, the Federal Aviation Administration put into effect ‘temporary flying restrictions’–until further notice–over the Fort Calhoun Nuclear Power Plant in Blaine, Nebraska. On June 16, 2011, local ABC News NTV Nebraska reported Radioactive Releases Not Expected at Omaha Nuclear Power Plant: [Snip] Officials at the Omaha Public Power District say there have been no releases of radioactive material since flooding from the Missouri River caused them to declare a low-level emergency June 6 at the Fort Calhoun nuclear power plant. The emergency level, declared as “a notification of an unusual event,” is the lowest possible of four standard emergency classifications set by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) and, as of now, there has been no risk to the public. Officials say they have sandbagged the area surrounding the plant to a level greater than what the projected water levels will reach, and that they do not expect any release of radioactivity. On June 7, 2011, the FAA issued temporary flying restrictions until further notice above the Cooper Nuclear Station located on the Missouri River near Brownsville, NE. On June 14, 2011, the report Cooper Nuke Plant Will Get More NRC Oversight: [Snip] NRC inspectors said some of the station’s procedures for manually operating valves – which are part of system for releasing coolants under high pressure – wouldn’t work in the event of a fire. The independent emergency cooling system is one means available to provide water to cool the reactor in case of an emergency. “Fire protection programs are a critical component in plant safety and the NRC is paying special attention to ensure [Cooper] takes actions to fully correct this issue,” according to Region IV Administrator Elmo E. Collins. According to an informative post at the site The People’s Voice, the Ft. Calhoun Nuclear Power Plant and the Cooper Nuclear station are ‘partially submerged’ by Missouri floodwaters. [Snip] On June 7, the Fort Calhoun Nuclear Power Plant filed an Alert with the Nuclear Regulatory Commission after a fire broke out in the switchgear room. During the event, “spent fuel pool cooling was lost” when two fuel pumps failed for about 90 minutes. On June 9, Nebraska’s other plant, Cooper Nuclear Power Station near Brownville, filed a Notice of Unusual Event (NOUE), advising it is unable to discharge sludge into the Missouri River due to flooding, and therefore “overtopped” its sludge pond. FAA issues No Fly Zones due to hazards? Media Blackout? US orders news blackout over crippled Nebraska Nuclear Plant: report A shocking report prepared by Russia’s Federal Atomic Energy Agency (FAAE) on information provided to them by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) states that the Obama regime has ordered a “total and complete” news blackout relating to any information regarding the near catastrophic meltdown of the Fort Calhoun Nuclear Power Plant located in Nebraska. According to this report, the Fort Calhoun Nuclear Plant suffered a “catastrophic loss of cooling” to one of its idle spent fuel rod pools on 7 June after this plant was deluged with water caused by the historic flooding of the Missouri River which resulted in a fire causing the Federal Aviation Agency (FAA) to issue a “no-fly ban” over the area. Located about 20 minutes outside downtown Omaha, the largest city in Nebraska, the Fort Calhoun Nuclear Plant is owned by Omaha Public Power District (OPPD) who on their website denies their plant is at a “Level 4” emergency by stating: “This terminology is not accurate, and is not how emergencies at nuclear power plants are classified.” Russian atomic scientists in this FAAE report, however, say that this OPPD statement is an “outright falsehood” as all nuclear plants in the world operate under the guidelines of the International Nuclear and Radiological Event Scale (INES) which clearly states the “events” occurring at the Fort Calhoun Nuclear Power Plant do, indeed, put it in the “Level 4” emergency category of an “accident with local consequences” thus making this one of the worst nuclear accidents in US history. Though this report confirms independent readings in the United States of “negligible release of nuclear gasses” related to this accident it warns that by the Obama regimes censoring of this event for “political purposes” it risks a “serious blowback” from the American public should they gain knowledge of this being hidden from them. Interesting to note about this event was the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) Chief, Gregory B. Jaczko, blasting the Obama regime just days before the near meltdown of the Fort Calhoun Nuclear Power Plant by declaring that “the policy of not enforcing most fire code violations at dozens of nuclear plants is “unacceptable” and has tied the hands of NRC inspectors.” [link to nation.com.pk] |

FAA issues No Fly Zones due to hazards? Media Blackout? The Fort Calhoun nuclear power station in Nebraska remains shut down due to Missouri River flooding, but the plant itself has not flooded and is expected to remain safe, the federal government said Friday. The rising river "has certainly affected the site, but the plant itself, the actual reactor is still dry," said Scott Burnell, Nuclear Regulatory Commission spokesman. The 478-megawatt plant north of Omaha shut April 9 to refuel, and has remained shut because of the flooding, said Omaha Public Power District spokesman Jeff Hanson. "When the river reaches 1,004 feet above mean sea level, we shut down," said Hanson. "We don't have any idea when we'll be able to start again." The Missouri River, swollen by heavy rains and melting snow, has been flooding areas from Montana through Missouri. Residents have been shoring up levees around towns as federal officials widen flood gates to allow record or near-record water releases to ease pressure on reservoirs. The Fort Calhoun station is owned and operated by the Omaha Public Power District and supplies power to Nebraska's largest city. Contractors at the plant have completed construction of an earthen berm around the plant's switch yard and are protecting the plant and other facilities with large temporary structures filled with water. According to the NRC's Burnell, the added flood barriers will protect the plant even if the river rises beyond where it is currently projected to go. Within that flood barrier, the plant has taken steps to provide additional protection for emergency diesel generators, Burnell said. Burnell said that all information available to the NRC indicates the plant will remain safe. "The Missouri River flooding has appropriately been accounted for and the plant will be able to deal with it in a safe and appropriate way," Burnell said. About 60 miles south of Omaha near Brownsville, Neb., the Cooper Nuclear Station, run by the Nebraska Public Power District, remains in operation, providing power to all of Nebraska, including Omaha while the Fort Calhoun plant is down, according to Mark Becker, media relations specialist for the NPPD. The river level there is at 896.6 feet above sea level. Becker said the plant would not declare a "notice of an unusual event" to the NRC until the level reached 899 feet, and would not shut down the reactor until 902 feet. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has predicted the crest there will likely reach 899.6 feet. Becker said the preparation for the flood has included sandbagging around the plant. The plant is also barricading off some switch yards that bring power into the plant. The plant also has three back-up diesel generators. The areas around the plant is flooded, which means employees come in through one entrance. "It's a longer drive in the morning," Becker said. He said the reactor for the 800-megawatt plant had to shut down in 1993, when flooding washed out roads, which would have inhibited implementation of an emergency evacuation plan. |
