The people cannot be all, & always, well informed... If they remain quiet under such misconceptions it is a lethargy, the forerunner of death to the public liberty... Let them take arms... What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots & tyrants. " - Thomas Jefferson in 1787 |

Moisture from the Gulf of Mexico will flow northward over the Plains and Mississippi Valley and into the Ohio Valley interacting with the cold front extending southward from the low. This will produce showers, thunderstorms and severe thunderstorms (including damaging wind gusts, large hail and tornadoes) from Texas to the Great Lakes. Heavy precipitation (more than 3 inches) will produce Flash Flooding in the Northern Plains and Upper Mississippi Valley - exacerbating ongoing flooding." Looks like more storms to come over the week. |

[link to radar.weather.gov] Omaha Radar..it's getting close (T-5-10 minutes) [link to radar.weather.gov] Jim Cantore is in Omaha on TWC sirens are going off there 75 mph straightline winds expected idk where your getting your info, BUT I LIVE HERE, and there were only 2 tornadoes and on the MIDWEST part of the state. one was pretty big and the other a dud, but nothing anywhere near Omaha. Go ahead, get ppl worked up u flippin fear monger. your not even from here yet you post like you know everything. ppl like you are ruining sites like this. GLP is really losing credibility with its hype on this story. its one thing to follow the story and keep ppl updated, but to lie and keep ppl scared is another thing. im starting to see GLP and its users for what they really are. and so is the rest of the country. No Tornado happened in Omaha !! High winds YES -Sky looked wicked as a shelf cloud rolled in. There was a tornado WEST of Omaha..No where near Omaha! FACT! |

OPPD's Fort Calhoun nuclear power plant north of Omaha is currently offline for scheduled refueling. Because it's now surrounded by high water, OPPD says it won't be restarted until the water goes down. Floodwater is also lapping at NPPD's Cooper Nuclear Power Plant near Brownville, but it continues to operate. Should Cooper be shut down due to increased flooding, the utilities said, the utilities can generate enough power with their coal-fired plants or import power from other states to provide the state sufficient power. more @ [link to journalstar.com] |

T]he Nebraska Public Power District (NPPD) insists the 37-year-old Cooper Nuclear Station in Brownville, which sits on the raging Missouri River, is as secure as they come. On a scale of 1-10, with 10 being the safest, Alan Dostal who is NPPD’s nuclear expert says, ”We are an absolutely safe plant, that’s a 10.” Dostal’s comments came during an interview with Nebraska Watchdog on March 29, five days before three workers at Cooper were exposed to radiation. According to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) a fuel rod accident triggered alarms that are worn by the workers. NPPD says the incident which is still under investigation did not cause any apparent injuries but was “unacceptable.” The NRC wants “to understand why normal work practices were not followed.” [...] [T]he federal government’s own Sandia National Laboratories has concluded that similarities between the Dai-Ichi plant and reactors like Cooper pose a significant problem: specifically that a lengthy loss of electrical power could cause a nuclear meltdown. [...] The data posted by the weather service showed the Missouri River reaching 901.73 feet above sea level at Brownville, which is about three miles north of Cooper Nuclear Station. Nebraska Public Power District officials are concerned rising flood waters could force them to shut down the nuclear power plant if the river reaches a level of 902 feet above sea level. [...] The highest reading at Cooper on Sunday was 900.6 feet above sea level, [NPPD spokesman Mark Becker] said. [link to enenews.com] two quotes from the comments section at enenews that I agree with.. Heart of the Rose June 21, 2011 at 10:23 am It’s just too cheesy to believe… of all the gauges up and down the river..the one at Cooper is faulty… SteveMT June 21, 2011 at 12:24 pm We can design a nuclear power plant that can operate for decades, but we cannot design a gauge to monitor water levels needed by the nuclear power plant to safely operate. I don’t believe it. |
