(OP) 12/08/2005 10:20 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | The origin of the Didgeridoo is not accurately known, though some research indicates it´s birth may have been as recent as one thousand years ago (World Archaeology-vol 12, no 3, Alice Moyle). Traditionally, it comes from the north of Australia and is played by males. It is not normally used as a solo instrument, but rather accompanies clicking sticks, singing and dancing. It is used primarily, but not exclusively, in "more open" ceremonies, clan songs and fun songs. Boys learn to play the Didgeridoo from an early age, the most efficient player is recognized and held in high esteem. The player may tap out rhythms using click sticks or his fingers on the instrument while playing. Increasingly, Didgeridoos are included in music groups, rock bands, orchestras and in a solo capacity as atmosphere creators for seminars and workshops. The haunting music of a solo Didgeridoo touches people´s hearts and calls to remembrance our spiritual and earthly heritage. |

(OP) 12/08/2005 10:20 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | This is a wide and as yet very poorly represented issue. Didgeridoo healing is the use of didgeridoo sound to heal people (and animals). The didgeridoo is an instrument that produces low frequency sound that we can hear and actual vibrations that we can feel, especially if the end of the didgeridoo is placed close to the body. The image on the right plots the frequencies against the relative magnitude of the sound of a didgeridoo. As you can see the strongest frequencies of a typical didj are in the 50-200 Hertz range (the two big spikes on the left) with several harmonics going up to about 1000Hertz. What is interesting is that the didj also seems to produce near infra-sound as is indicated by the small spike near 0 Hertz, especially if you consider that our brain waves are in the 2-20 hertz range. This entity, upon which this galaxy and all others revolve as systems, is singing. That song is creation. Each planetary Lord is also singing. The Sun sings, constantly, in different notes. Hence the different colors - echoes in light matter of that sound frequencies |

Anonymous Coward 12/08/2005 10:20 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Back in 1988, I went to see a concert by the Australian band Midnight Oil at my university here in the US. They brought with them a group of Austalian Aboriginies who played music and danced. When the didjeridoo started to play, I was overcome with emotion, as I watched the men dancing I suddenly felt I knew that that is what being human was meant to be like, and that was the first time I had ever witnessed true human beings. As tears streamed down my cheeks, I felt the glory of what I could be, what we could be, and the bars of this cage we are in disappeared for the duration of the concert. But the concert had to end, and I had to sadly re-enter the "real" (fake) world once again. All my life I have sought that kind of transcendence, but that performance is the only time I have ever experienced it. It thoroughly validated the disillusionment with our society that I was beginning to feel as an eighteen year old finding out that college was really not about learning the truth. |

The primal sounds of rage and warning, nurturing and affection, grief and joy all come from the middle brain. This middle brain, which is stimulated by vocal toning, didjeridoos, crystal and metal singing bowls and other non-rhythmic sounds, can also be considered the "communal brain". Unlike linear music scores that start with a first note and move in a set rhythm until they end on the last note, didjes and toning both curve in circles, returning to the same fundamentals and basic overtones. And unlike conventional scores, which have tempi that indicate how long a piece should take, the tones of the middle brain and the didjeridoo are timeless, leading those who experience them into trance states where limits and measures no longer occur to the mind. Thus middle brain tones and tribes both tend to move in circles. It is no wonder they are naturally linked with one another, and why western tribes that are based in both Earth and Spirit gravitate toward gatherings in which the circular actions of toning and chant, didjeridoo sound and trance dance are combined within the sacred geometry of a circle. As we´re about to see, the didj is a magic tool for other circular processes. |

(OP) 12/08/2005 10:20 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Equinox Sound Wave Talking about our worldwide didj tribe, the equinox is coming up in a few days - on the 22 September - time for all of us to let our didjes join in song around the world. With wars and natural catastrophes some meditative sound healing will benefit each one of us and we never know, it might even affect a few other people. And I am certain that the sooner humanity gets the message to ´look after country´ the higher our children’s children chances are to still enjoy this beautiful planet. So please join our worldwide didj circle with your didj on 22 September at your local sunset time. The more the merrier and the stronger the ´didj wave´ will be - you never know it might just be loud enough to wake the hundreds monkey :-). And we are not alone this time. Daniel Brower emailed me to let me know that he has organised people in many countries to do sound healing meditations on the same day. They will all do it at the same time (13:00pm New York time) which is when the Europeans among you will do our didj meditation anyway. If any of you wish to support their synchronous effort you can go to Daniel´s web site to see whether there is an event near you or at what time you can join them. Please still join our ´didj wave´ as well. Here again the simple structure of our event: Wherever you are in the world at your local sunset time, start playing your didj. Play (with or without breaks) for 45 minutes and then simply sit for 15 minutes in silence. If you cannot play the didj yet, just listen to some didj music - or play another instrument. With enough participants this will create a wave of didj music to follow the sunset all around the planet. Together we will make it happen! Even if we play by ourselves wherever we are as Kev does in the above image from Lincoln UK (thanks for the nice pic, Kev). All of you, please spread the word to your friends, invite them to join us (with or without a didj) and help make this a strong didj wave circling the globe. |

(OP) 12/08/2005 10:20 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | For hundreds of years - even back to the ancient Egyptians and Greeks - music has been based not on ONE scale but on seven different types of musical scale. The ancient Greeks called them ´modes,´ such as the Dorian mode and the Phrygian. I have proved that, although eight-note scales, they contain 12 different notes between the tonic and octave. I have further shown that these 14 notes are analogous to the 14 roots of the exceptional group G2. This is the group of automorphisms of the octonions, the last of the four possible classes of number. Some physicists (including myself) suspect strongly that octonions are the natural number system expressing the physics of superstrings. This would imply that octonions and the seven types of musical scales (of which the modern 12-note, equal=tempered scale is but an approximation) are different aspects of the same conceptual system. Music and the vibrations of superstrings would then be described by analogous kinds of mathematics. |
