Freaking A! Case Dismissed Against Woman Arrested While Videotaping Police!! | |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 1437365 United States 06/27/2011 02:33 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | This is bullshit. I guess we don't want law and order in this country, and we want busy bodies with camera distracting are police from doing their duties. Keep it up busy bodies ... you may get the charges dropped, but going to jail or getting your ass kicked by the cops still isn't fun . Is it really worth it? |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 1445389 United States 06/27/2011 02:34 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Well, the cops need to lose one of these once in a while - hope it becomes a trend! Also remember the most effective behavioral deterrent for these cases is sustained public mockery and protest. Many cops might not care, but the elected officials want to win their next election. |

Early this afternoon, demonstrators rallied outside the Hall of Justice in support of Emily Good who was arrested while videotaping police officers during a traffic stop on May 12 in front of her 19th Ward home. Good recorded police officers making a traffic stop while standing in her front yard even though an officer asked her to stop and go inside. She was charged with obstructing of governmental administration. Since then, the video from that night has made it onto news shows across the country. WIIIIIIIIIIIIIN Now, she needs to sue their ass off for false arrest. If not, it will happen again. |

Cops do have a tough job and they deserve respect, but they have to be able to cope with being watched and video recorded. Making up laws on the spot in order to arrest someone with a camera, when they wont stop, is only going to hurt police. They jsut have to deal with it. |

Illinois, Massachusetts, and Maryland have laws making it illegal to film cops saying it's wiretapping. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1131530Film cops there and you will end up in jail. Film cops anywhere else where it is "legal" and you'll still end up in jail, get your ass kicked, or both! Doesn't matter what's legal or illegal, you can be arrested for any reason or no reason, it all depends upon what the officer wants -- he has the power, you DON'T! So why be stupid and give a cop a reason to arrest you? Everybody knows that cops don't like to be photograped or videoed, so just respect their wishes and leave them alone! |

No, the cops do NOT have the power to arrest people willy nilly for no good reason. They have the ability to do so but are proven wrong time and time again if the arrest was unlawful to begin with. If you work in a capacity where the public can observe and by extension therefore record your actions then you should be prepared as a public servant to be observed and recorded. We - the public have an expectation that you - as a public servant wearing the police uniform - are trained to keep and promote peace without using gestapo tactics. And, the public will support your efforts in your capacity as a uniformed public servant much more if you treat us like fellow human beings and not camp prisoners on public or private property, for that matter. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1439733"Snitches get stitches." :) Cops have ways of getting back at smart asses who try to get them in trouble. In other words, you love jacked-booted nazis on our streets who have contempt for those keeping "the law" in check with "the law". We used to use Nazi's for bayonet practice in WW2, now we call them "Republicans/Democrats". You make every police officer wince at the thought of you twisting their views. Cops who like to get back at law abiding citizens stop being cops and become thugs. And of course you support such terrorism. |
