Re: Film recommendations?
"Greek" was nowhere near as good, unfortunately. Brand's character got annoying, quickly, and the sidekick not enough on his own to carry it.

Worth a watch if you've got nothing else going on. Lot's of Forg.Sar.Marsh. references.

I never really liked Jonah Hill, which was one of the reasons I avoided it - figured a movie with two actors I barely like couldn't have much redeeming value. I'll probably add it to the queue, but it can stay at the bottom for now. Would rather dig into all the other cool shit people have recommended for me tonight hf

Re: Film recommendations?
Those aerial fly-over movies shown on HD PBS, especially the ones of southern Italy, Sicily, and the Greek Isles are like a narcotic. I wish you could turn off the narration and keep the music though - the audio channel selections are weak

Of those, I've only seen The Mist (which I absolutely loved) and Snatch - another great movie :) I've read mixed reviews of Pineapple Express, Superbad and Year One, but Nostradamus and Seven Signs of the Apocalypse seem intriguing. Thanks! :)

Jessica, OMG - How funny.

I just noticed you have "I cahoot with no one" as your signature.

I swear I was this close "" to telling you to watch Poltergeist II if you've never seen it but then I thought "Nah, I'm the only loony raving Poltergeist fan in the universe."

Poltergest is my all time favorite movie and I love Part II almost as much, like 95%.

The only thing P2 suffers from is the wierd stilted dialogue in some spots.

Re: Film recommendations?
So, Poltergeist...yeah.

I was 10 when it came out, and I must've seen it 11 times in the theater.

A couple of years later, my first home theater surround sound experience came via Poltergeist. My Mom's friend had the super old-school laser disc player, the kind where the discs had massive plastic shells.

I couldn't stand to watch the VHS version because of the pan-and-scan factor. As soon as I became an adult with income I bought the second model laserdisc player and got widescreen Poltergeist!

Are you hardcore enough to remember the bit that got cut out of the movie, when Steven shouts about how he hates Pizza Hut? (It's in the book) I remember the scene clearly from all those years ago.

Part 2 is great, Part 3...well...it had Carol Anne in it.

Oh, you are SO LUCKY to have seen it in theaters. It actually came out the year I was born :) Was one of the first movies I ever watched, on VHS, on the old-school big-screen TV our family had at the time. When I was a kid, it scared the crap out of me - I still jump when the hand reaches out of the TV to touch Carol Anne the first time.

I always hated the pan-and-scan VHS, too - can't believe movies were ever released in such a crappy format - most of my VHS tapes are that way. Terrible! Was so glad to get the DVD of Poltergeist - what a difference! I've never actually seen the Pizza Hut bit, though.

I so love Part 2. I've only ever met one other person who loves it the way I do :) There are such genuine heartwarming moments in both films - I really love the Freelings. The part in II where Diane is in the rose garden and remembers her mother? I still get a lump in my throat. I'm pretty sentimental, though :)

Part 3 ... eh. It has its moments, certainly, and you can't really go wrong with Tom Skerritt, but ... yeah. The replacement Kane was pretty bad, and poor Heather was so sick and puffy during filming. It's pretty sad, really.
