Found an article that is quite un-nerving! Crater Lake is considered and inactive volcano..so why this? This article is dated July 30. 2011 [link to seattletimes.nwsource.com] USGS wants monitoring tower erected in Crater Lake snip> "In order to monitor a potentially active volcano in Oregon's Crater Lake National Park, the U.S. Geological Survey wants to build a 60-foot tall tower that will allow the transmission of information from surveying instruments" I believe all this possible venting in California Pisgah Crater and several others, from southern Ca. to Cemtral Ca., Nevada and Oregon may all be very, very real!!! Crater Lake has supposedly been dormant since it's last eruption in 5700 B.C. It is a National Park that they now want to put monitoring equipment on because as the article states, it may possibly be becoming active. Crater Lake is considered an inactive volcano: Crater Lake in Oregon is an inactive (most say "extinct") volcano. If this is so, then what is up with this new monitoring tower?? Was Mt St Helens considered active? Serious question. There are a LOT of "inactive" volcanoes in the Pacific NW. I don't believe in "tame" tigers, either.
