Satellite Pics show NO Improvement in Flooding Situation At Ft. Calhoun/Cooper since June..Why is there a News Blackout?

there has been an almost total news blackout regarding the flooding around the Nebraska Nuke plants..The last real news that came out regarding the flooding that I know of came out on July 9th when this was predicted: The Corps predicts that the river will eventually rise high enough to flow over some 18 to 70 levees, mostly in rural areas of southeast Nebraska

Ft Calhoun and Cooper NPS are both located in SE Nebraska..

I was sort of surprised to discover that by comparing before and 'after' Satellite images that it appears the flooding hasn't gotten better at all and may have even become worse..

if you go though the images day by day starting from around June 23rd you'll probably see apparent inconsistencies and many days where it's showing no flooding at all

I think the inconsistency and missing information is done deliberately to made it harder for anyone to arrive at a definite conclusion..I had the same problem in one of my other threads where the images were blatantly altered imo

Here's a map of the Area..Ft. Calhoun is located at Blair Nebraska Approx 20 or so miles N of Omaha and Cooper NPS is located at Brownville Nebraska which is not on the map but is located S of Omaha and just W of Rockport MO (I made it deliberately 'larger' so you can see the bend by St Joseph..according to the Sat images the flooding has not gone S of there since this started)

the strange thing about that forecast imo is that it's showing no flooding in and around Omaha but massive flooding just to the N and S

Forecasters are raising the threat level on the Missouri River from moderate to major for Harrison and Washington counties. This after water begins to overtop a levee protecting homes from the DeSoto Wildlife Refuge.

that's the second levee breach that I know of N of Ft. Calhoun..the first one on June 25th collapsed the aqua berms there imo

Look at this.

Where you see red squares the river is at 98% of flood stage OR ABOVE FLOOD STAGE. Omaha is a red square.

Water level at Cooper's intake structure along the Missouri River is at 38.4 feet. The normal water level for summer is 20-29 feet. At 38.5, they say they will begin following their "abnormal operating procedures"-whatever that is.

Omaha is almost 6 ft. above flood stage if you can trust the hydrographs..it's almost at 35 ft..flood stage is 29 ft.

Blair/ Ft Calhoun is supposedly about 4 ft. above flood stage and is still under a flood warning

Brownville/Cooper is supposedly over 5 ft. above flood stage is under a flood warning and is still operating at full capacity as it has been since it was probably hit by a flash flood on June 23

I don't think it's an exaggeration to say that the high water levels are a problem; whether it's getting better or worse is the question.

You can get an Android app called TuneIn Radio that gives feeds of both Omaha news stations and police & fire/EMS radio.

I think the biggest question I have at this point is that the berms around Ft Calhoun collapsed on June 25th..the Satellite image from that day shows much less water imo then the image I posted from June 28 (three days later)

like I said earlier I'm questioning why the Satellite images have missing info..(can't trust them) I sort of hinted at not trusting the 'official' hydrographs (Can't trust them) or basically any info that 'officially' comes from the gooberment (can't trust them)

about the only thing I do trust is my own senses..

The Missouri river at Omaha is dropping very slowing-about a 1/10 of an inch a day-if they choke the flow from Gavins Point, it will begin to drop more rapidly. They have shut down air traffic over the power plants so we will not be seeing any updates from news helicopters. The National Guard has been pulled off the levies-with the heat, they will want to keep the plant running full out. Hopefully everything will be alright.

Releases from Gavins Point Dam (the last dam on the river and upstream from the Nuclear Plants) is down a bit from it's maximum, but has been holding at a high rate ever since they opened it's spillways ... which keeps the water high downstream.

Slowly, and the operating word is "slowly" the water levels in the upstream dams are declining, but all the big upstream dams are STILL above their normal pool levels.

The problem isn't a massive NEW wave of water coming downstream, it is the ongoing high water levels that are slowly saturating everything down stream since the water levels have now been high for so long. (most flood control projects assume a big slug coming down and then the flood abating and water levels dropping, which is NOT what is happening with this flood). Call it "death by a thousand drips" versus one big wave of water.

also.. all the coal powered plants in that area were also supposedly flooding at that time..

Interesting that the city of Omaha owns a coal fired plant. Any electricity that is purchased at the market right now is extremely high priced which discourages any attempt to throttle back the plant.
ˆIm not sure about the satellite photo. As far as I know, it looks normal. What are you seeing that interests you, if I may ask?

yw..what concerned me especially about this was the 'military' presence in the area..I think it's claimed that they are the National Guard but I wouldn't be surprised if it were someone else doing some kind of roundup while everyone was diverted..

the fact that the gooberment came out a few weeks ago saying terrorists had already infiltrated facilites like this did nothing to dispel my fears of a couple of meltdowns either

what's really strange Is I noticed that the berm collape etc. at Ft. Calhoun was going on at roughly the same time as the back burn etc at Los Alamos

as far as the difference in the images you can see for yourself..if the flooding was bad on the 19th it looks way worse on 6-28..it's hard to see looking at the two pics below but it's easy enough just to go to that link and see for yourself..it's very user friendly and easy to go from the 19th to the 28th..if you opened two windows at the same time it would probably be even easier

The Missouri River continues to rip through Bismarck-Mandan. About 1,000 homes remain evacuated, although one by one families are now returning to assess the heart-breaking damage as the river slowly drops. Expectations are it will be mid- to late September before the Missouri drops below flood stage.
