Karma Quest Good or Not ? | |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 1500092 Australia 08/14/2011 08:40 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | It's still too early to tell, If everyone just goes green and we can get some free upgrades or the ability to pin a great topic of our choice then I'm all for this. If this karma system drives out the dissenting voice that keeps us honest, makes us think and cements our arguments, then I'm not sure. Time will tell. I'm glad to see most posters are in the green. I refuse to give negative Karma, It would come back and bite me in the arse. |

To me it is a small step in social engineering peoples behavior. Get everyone worried about offending, get everyone channeled into thinking alike. Frankly I don't wish everyone to like me. There are some people if they did like me I would be worried about what I had become. I wish to opt out of the Karma system, and the part of turning people in for points is horrible. Even while I do not like what a couple of members post, I will fight to the death their right to post it. the rating system now in place and the BS flags and your right to agree or disagree with them, without penalty is enough. This site is not a popularity contest but has been useful for open discussion. Race to the top of the Karma chart if you will, but please opt me out. Anonymous Coward User ID: 1491347 United States 08/14/2011 09:07 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | This poll is to find out who likes the Karma rating system and who would prefer to opt out. Quoting: anonimallePost your reasons for or against if you wish. Will post my thoughts on down the line today. Forgot to click the poll thing so it will be just an open discussion. start another thread then with the poll. I am not impressed to date. to begin with karma is a lousy choice of words, because karma does not work the way it has been set up to function here. but it is proving to be for people like me that study people and their behavior to be "interesting' and my dissapointment is not unexpected, not in my "karma" rating, but in my hopes people would be more mature, maybe eventually that will happen. I would never give a bad karma report to somebody like Russ, for example, because I don't like his thinking. I don't, it's immature. but it doesn't deserve bad karma. What's sad is all the christian immature thinking here will get bonus points. Ponder that one. I have made one bad karma vote, and that is for a person that came specifically here to chase my work in a destructive manner. Openly putting out lies of others and the like. That is the sort of stuff that deserves a bad karma rating. there is another that will also get one, I used up my karma votes the first day giving out good karma. I don't think I did any yesterday after it was hiked to 10 per day. I think it's silly myself and a waste of time and effort and will not decrease the need to police this site. It will however prove how shallow home people are and be a source of entertainment. It will NOT have any effect on improving this site. Thus a waste of time. Proper moderation is the solution and getting rid of the AC is the solution. making everyone get a free account is the solution to the issue of widespread bans. the Karma cannot be used around the noxious AC. There is a solution to the issue of seeking insider information via the AC. it would come much easier than this karma system. |

I like the fact that you ask for the reason we give a thumbs up. The feedback is nice for the poster to get. I haven't used the thumbs down, but I'm assuming there will be an opportunity to give reason for that too. Some previous posters seem to think this is some kind of popularity contest. I disagree. Feedback on posts, lets people know what the GLPers like when it comes to keeping threads interesting, informative and viable. That is why most of us are here, isn't it? In my case, it is making obvious those who are here to shill against the material I present. The ACs are the problem not those with accounts. those with accounts can be deleted. Granted they can reincarnate, but it will be obvious. |
