Even if there are various demi-gods the idea of a supreme deity exists in Hinduism.
Quoting: Vlad Tepes Like I said, an amalgamation of various beliefs is what many people call "Hinduism". Even Vaishnavas are lumped in with Hindus, but Vaishnavas do not worship only demi-gods. They worship a supreme deity, even though they acknowledge the demi gods are his supreme servants. It's like this. The Demi-Gods are the various servants of the supreme deity. One does not have to satisfy the individual demi-gods if you can satisfy the supreme deity. The demi-gods are automatically satisfied when you satisfy their master. The same way that all the leaves of a tree are nourished when you water the root of the tree. You do not have to water each individual branch or leaf. Quoting: SaveTheLivingEntities Kind of like Zeus and the Gods of Olympus? Quoting: HilosPP Sort of. Zeus is more similar to the demi-god titled Indra. Indra is the King of Heaven and the God of Thunder. His weapon is the lightning bolt. Indra is not considered the supreme deity, but a very powerful demi-god none the less. In the Vedas though, Indra is a post, a position, not a name. The person who is Indra can change, and has changed. Many people believe that the Greek God Zeus and the Vedic Demi-God Indra are the same, but described in different languages and traditions that have changed over many generations. Quoting: SaveTheLivingEntities I like your analogies here. This is very much how I percieve the "gods", or demi-gods, as would be more fitting. I am polytheistic, yet I woship none...only honour nature and show respect where it is deserved.
