So why is it that Galveston can use their School Buses to evacuated, but Mayor Nagin could not bring himself to do it?

Can´t collect flood insurance pay off for busses that get moved out of flood zone.

Umm... maybe because by the time they realized they were in deep deep trouble the buses were underwater?

FEMA afraid that school busses full of poor folks would jam the roads - thously keeping SUVs from getting out first.

School board too fucking cheap to buy the gas.

Busses not safe for adults (who can sue).

Maybe Galveston had an early ´Katrina´ warning?

Using school busses would make the evacuation seem real.

It´s because Katrina struck on a Saturday. He would have had to bring the bus drivers in and pay them overtime, and we all know that there is no money in the budget for overtime. Expecially for a bus driver!

In NO there was a total uncooperation of local and federal government, total breakdown -- not the case in good ole Texas....

you can also say -- NO gave them a good example to learn from.

Levees didn´t give out til a day after the hurricane, and thats when hell broke loose. You´ll stop at nothing to put blame on a dem.

Did you know that in New Orleans, they had called all the bus drivers and put them on stand by to help in the evacuation, but then the officials in charge decided not to conduct the evacuation? Why is that?

Gee, I wonder why there´s such good cooperation between the State and Federal folks in Texas? Any ideas?

Hindsight is 20/20, really I shouldn´t have to say that.

These people are bureaucrats, the first time round they spent the whole time discussing the logistics of using those busses. It´s pretty complicated if you don´t just jump into it. Making sure all the busses go to the right place and end up in the right place.

Put yourself in the shoes of a timid bureaucrat. Please, understand how shit works.

They can put on the worlds biggest party, but they can´t get the buses rolling. The buses should have been used BEFORE the levees broke because of the danger of the hurricane. It´s not like they had to wait for the levees to fail. Had that hurricane come a little west, they would all be dead. There is no excuse for not doing this. They enough buses to get everyone who wanted to go, out.

btw - I´m a Bushco hater, so it´s not about blaming Democrats. The whole damn government, from top to bottom, needs to go.
