Weird "Electricity" Sounds This Morning - Chico, California - Any Ideas?
I don't know if any of you have ever heard that machine you seen in the museums that has the electricity zapping all over it. Some are small enough that you can touch them and your hair will stand up. This morning in Northern California I heard this same sound...but ampliphied several times. It sounded like it was coming from the sky...not ground bound. There was multiple people walking through the parking lot at different locations and several of us stopped and looked West. It was like slapping and cracking...not just humming and buzzing. I checked with a contractor working here and he said they had heard it as well but didn't know where it came from. Clear skies, no airplanes, no transformers blowing, etc.

Any ideas?

Piezoelectricity is the charge which accumulates in certain solid materials (notably crystals, certain ceramics, and biological matter such as bone, DNA and various proteins) in response to applied mechanical stress.
The word piezoelectricity means electricity resulting from pressure.
It is derived from the Greek piezo or piezein, which means to squeeze or press, and electric or electron, which stands for amber, an ancient source of electric charge. Piezoelectricity is the direct result of the piezoelectric effect.

Various places on Earth have more of this potential than others; you dear poster are near a high potential of energy that may discharge locally into the atmospere displaying vertical rainbows. Maybe a precursor of Earth movements along a fault line.

Never heard of that before. I've been here for over a year and a half...never heard this before here or anywhere else except in the museum situation I explained earlier. Thanks for the info though.

Don't fall for that crap, Elenin is a comet, it does not have a magnetic field...

So how are the gangs in Chico? Getting worse or thinning out?
I lived in Redding for about 9 years, left in 07, but had some friends over there in Chico.

I don't know...not prolific I'd say. Butte County S.O. got down on em quite a bit in the past year. Starting to break up I'd say.

Wow, it's amazing that you posted this. I heard it this morning when I pulled up to a meeting. I live in Chico also but I heard it in Orland. Sounded like a strange loud metallic/electric noise. Hard to explain really.

Stab In The Dark:

Electromagnetic Precursors before an Earthquake?

(older 2007 article):

[link to www.wired.com]

"SAN FRANCISCO –- Scientists revealed data Thursday that an electromagnetic alarm might have preceded a 2007 earthquake in Northern California. The evidence could offer support to a controversial theory that mysterious and little-understood signals might offer fair warning for imminent catastrophic earthquakes."

Maybe ELQ can shed more light on whether or not this is related.

We're not far from the geysers near clear lake. About 100 miles maybe. They're a VERY active seismic area. I wouldn't be suprised to see it go...

Wonder if the powerlines (from Oroville dam) draipped over the canyons above Bidwell park etc (around the 5 mile) are buzzing?

Ive heard them crackling in the past, but you have to be somewhat close to them to hear...

I know we didn't see the quakes on the California coast but hey...maybe there was something to these strange electrical sounds after all? The quakes in Colorado and Virginia are both fairly significant.
