I appreciate the thought, but I'll consider myself a hero if I actually uncovered something major and had the balls to come out about it. As it is now, it's just irregularities that I'm comfortable revealing.

Hey OP

Some years ago I purchased some Israel gas masks sealed. Haven't looked at them in couple years. Based on this information I am thinking I may need to discard them? Any help on this for me.

Thanks for the info OP

When you two quit bickering, let us know. There is a question about the tv show The "Ev3nt" I would like to pose as it may relate to the bags.

Typically... NBC filters for gas masks last at MOST 15 years. And that's stretching it. If they're just chemical filters you might be alright.

The gas mask itself should be fine, although I would use a banana to test the seal. If you put the mask on with a fresh filter, hold the unpeeled banana around the edges of the mask and breath. If you smell the banana, the mask isn't sealing properly (which is common for older masks.)

Bananas are one of the most recognizable and unique odors is why I'd suggest that.

However, if it's an old surplus mask, I would purchase new filters, or consider a new mask platform all together.

"I work with a defense contractor in SW Ohio specializing in medical/logistical products."

"I do not make anything. I approve purchase orders for our medical/logistics sector"

So, which is it Jake? GEFC is not a defense contractor it is a finance company General Electric IS a defense contractor. And they do make medical products - just not body bags. And frankly if your information is true, what possible worry would you have as far losing your job? Appears neither you nor I will need one shortly.

And, no, I am not the one "trying to turn you in". A bit paranoid and self-aggrandizing isn't it Jake.

You cannot delete threads, so you are telling me you're endangering your potential for future sales with your biggest buyer???

 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1518815

Most orders come through our finance building. We offer the most medical financing per capita than any company in the world.

While not technically part of Consumer Finance, our government liaison branch was in Mason Ohio and moved up here when they shut down the division. At GECF, we also house various other white-collar segments of related ventures.

You don't have my identity. GE sells 17.7 Billion a year in medical equipment, which accounts for nearly 790 related products.

Also, the government is no where near our biggest client.

This is too important to not contact these agencies-FEMA, Homeland Security. I suggest we launch a campaign to get to the top of these agencies to get specific info on this matter. It is potentially the gravest danger that we face and it does matter. They work for US. Don't be reluctant to do what is morally right! I will contact the Kentucky state FEMA office in the morning. Get to work and shine the light on these people.

The government is so lazy and inefficient though, they would never get around to putting dead bodies in body bags.

I mean look what happened during Hurricane Katrina. They did pretty much nothing at all.

Re: Just an update to the body bag threads. Update first post
For those (most of you) who don't know me, I work with a defense contractor in SW Ohio specializing in medical/logistical products.

Way back, I made known my sincere concerns about the buyout of our stock of Burn Bags (NBC body bags that are burn friendly.) Also, the massive buyout of NCB in-line bunker filters for advanced filtration systems.

I am making this update to remind everyone of the reason of my concern, and the time line.

First and foremost, these products were purchased from me and my company at no-bids.

Usually, the government (or whomever) puts out feelers, gets bids and chooses a supplier.

For these goods, I just got a mass order number, and a new demand request for their bulk order to be delivered to our warehouse for their consignment storage on Oct. 23'rd. They also purchased our available stock on top of their production demand. This is "no-bid" meaning "Charge us whatever the heck you want." This is very rare, and I've only seen it done in times of emergency (like Katrina.)

The main concern I have, the body bags have anti-biotic properties and fire accelerates. One year after the date of manufacture, they will lose all effectiveness. The NBC filters about 5. After those dates, the filters (and body bags) will actually become much worse than useless... they will become toxic to handle and definitely dangerous to use.

To digress, a ton of money was spent to expedite a gigantic order of things which have very strict expiration dates.

Read into this what you will.
 Quoting: Jake101

I was a vendor for the government. No BIDs???!!! Something is brewing folks. I am quite frightened!! Also, note..the life span of these body bags. No, and I repeat, NO purchasing officer would go out on a limb like this. A typical PO would put out bids...u2efine unless this is the only company that makes and has a patent on bodybags.
Well..this is serious and I want to let everyone know, I want a PINK bodybag with a few decals of flowers...

I really do wish you the best of luck. But they'll likely tell you the same thing I've told you here.

They really, honestly buy a lot of body bags and things like them. They're used for storage, or training. Legitimate, non-Doom purposes.

That is why I'm not here proclaiming the end to be nigh. I'm just searching for information, like the rest of you, in the hopes that should something happen I have a sporting chance.

Just a thought.. but if a mass part of the american population were to die, wouldn't it be easier to dispose of the bodies without bags?
 Quoting: valendian

Smell, disease, public outrage at leaving bodies exposed, etc... Many reasons why they'd want some sort of disposal system, I think.
 Quoting: Earth Daughter

The bags will only contain the smell for so long. Despite popular belief, even a fresh corpse stinks, and we all know it only gets worse as time goes on.

I don't want to really poke my nose into this topic, but I just can't resist.

I'm in the funeral industry, and deal with a lot of yucky, icky things on a daily basis. In the case of body bags, I'm wondering how much the contract is for, OP. I know that our bags cost a pretty penny, and that's just for private body removals and general body transportation. I've also encountered the "more flammable" and "accelerated" bags while doing a direct-to-cremation drop off.

If they're spending god knows how much just to waste money, I'd rather see them spend the money on something useful, than expensive, and unnecessary bags.
