As a seasoned prepper I am a valued customer of freeze-dried long-storage foods. Does anybody remember just a few months ago the RFI (request for information) from DHS to The Ready Store and other distributors about their capability of supplying 14 million people with enough emergency food for 10 days. That's 140 million meals. After the RFI was put in to Mountain House, just a few weeks later DHS went ahead and placed the "no bid" order. To this day there is a backlog of #10 cans of freeze-dried entrees. Some items can take up to 8 months from the day of ordering. Can someone find and post the copy of the RFI? It was e-mailed out by Mountain House and The Ready Store.I've got mine saved to my Hotmail account, I think. The reason for the long lead times is that the initial purchase was not the end of it. DHS and FEMA are gobbling up 90% of all production of ready meals to this day. In the US and Canada. Check it out. I'm sure that this is a piece of some puzzle. I don't know what it is.
Don't forget about primer production being halted. The theory is that you can buy all the guns you want, but finding ammo will be pretty tough. All primers that are still on the warehouse shelves are being gobbled up by the military.

Just a thought.. but if a mass part of the american population were to die, wouldn't it be easier to dispose of the bodies without bags?
 Quoting: valendian

Smell, disease, public outrage at leaving bodies exposed, etc... Many reasons why they'd want some sort of disposal system, I think.
 Quoting: Earth Daughter

The bags will only contain the smell for so long. Despite popular belief, even a fresh corpse stinks, and we all know it only gets worse as time goes on.

I don't want to really poke my nose into this topic, but I just can't resist.

I'm in the funeral industry, and deal with a lot of yucky, icky things on a daily basis. In the case of body bags, I'm wondering how much the contract is for, OP. I know that our bags cost a pretty penny, and that's just for private body removals and general body transportation. I've also encountered the "more flammable" and "accelerated" bags while doing a direct-to-cremation drop off.

If they're spending god knows how much just to waste money, I'd rather see them spend the money on something useful, than expensive, and unnecessary bags.

Hey OP

Some years ago I purchased some Israel gas masks sealed. Haven't looked at them in couple years. Based on this information I am thinking I may need to discard them? Any help on this for me.

Thanks for the info OP
 Quoting: Mukk1234

Typically... NBC filters for gas masks last at MOST 15 years. And that's stretching it. If they're just chemical filters you might be alright.

The gas mask itself should be fine, although I would use a banana to test the seal. If you put the mask on with a fresh filter, hold the unpeeled banana around the edges of the mask and breath. If you smell the banana, the mask isn't sealing properly (which is common for older masks.)

Bananas are one of the most recognizable and unique odors is why I'd suggest that.

However, if it's an old surplus mask, I would purchase new filters, or consider a new mask platform all together.

Filters are made with activated charcoal, and alwasy have been. They can't become toxic unless they were used in a toxic environment and became saturated. The m17 scare etc are just "Urban legends" and heresay

On Coast To Coast AM, several months ago, there were rumors or mention of FEMA purchasing $1 billion worth of emergency food rations...The orders were supposedly so large that the suppliers were informing their existing Customers (talking Companies here and not individual consumers) that they could no longer service them because they would be dedicating all their resources towards fulfilling this government order... I wasn't on this site back then, but I'd imagine this topic was covered here.... Perhaps some link to that?

You're wrong. I work for the largest filter manufacturer in the world, filters are one thing I consider myself a near expert on.

Filters break down, and they become toxic. You're giving incorrect and dangerous advice.

Given there are more than 300 million people in this country, 1 million body bags is less than one third of one percent of the population. Distributed among 50 states, that's only 20,000 per state. Just a few thousand per city.

In other words, FEMA is simply maintaining adequate supplies in each city in case ANY event occurs that might knock out a few thousand people.

The only thing that makes the purchase so "alarming" is the lack of putting it out to bid ?

Re: Just an update to the body bag threads. Update first post
I've got a good question that is incredibly relevant to this thread.
Now it's a gut feeling a lot of people are getting, that the New Madrid is going to awaken from it's 200 year hibernation.

I know here, in Chattanooga- I'm finding it hard to find people who aren't consistently sick to their stomach/dizzy (feeling something) and they have no virus/disease. I've felt it myself off and on.

If something were to happen here- on the east coast, that triggered a 7.0 or even a 9.0; the way the terrain features are, that earthquake would resonate underground for possibly 1,000 miles popping up more severe and less sever false epicenters across 1/2 of this Continent (not country). Is the CDC rated to withstand a larger earthquake impact than a Nuclear power plant? I'm Certain there's a CDC storage containment vault in Georgia, and eventhough humans can't get into it- what happens when the sealing protocols are broken and something that has been locked away makes its way out. What happens after re-release into a new, non resistant populace? I think we're the equivalent of a sumo wrestlers trying to ice skate on 2 1/2 inches of ice right now.

Nice. Real nice. You actually want people to die for questioning what a stranger says on the net?
I tend to believe what he says, but I don't demand that people automatically should believe him.

What is your definition of a "hater"? Sounds like you call people who question things as haters. That's what obamazombies do. MUST.NOT.QUESTION. MUST.ACCEPT.

Op.....why anti-biotic body bags? Why are these normally used?? Sorry if this is a stupid question....
 Quoting: Anomalie

They're actually very common. Usually used when a corpse may have been exposed to a virus. In specific products, it can also assist in preventing rapid decomposition if the body needs to be examined. Usually in tandem with "cool bags," that help regulate the temperature inside until it can be stored properly.

Very similar to the bags you can buy at the store to help keep food cold.

I had a nightmare vision about a big warehouse with the number 222 on it. I saw hospital cots lined up in rows filling the entire huge warehouse. I walked around in this looking at sick people with sores on theor faces and blood coming from their mouths, and then I looked down on the cement floor ans saw white bloody rags full of blood and puke.

One day I later after that...I was reading in revelation and I came to rev, 2:22
