Re: Just an update to the body bag threads. Update first post
I've got a good question that is incredibly relevant to this thread.
Now it's a gut feeling a lot of people are getting, that the New Madrid is going to awaken from it's 200 year hibernation.

I know here, in Chattanooga- I'm finding it hard to find people who aren't consistently sick to their stomach/dizzy (feeling something) and they have no virus/disease. I've felt it myself off and on.

If something were to happen here- on the east coast, that triggered a 7.0 or even a 9.0; the way the terrain features are, that earthquake would resonate underground for possibly 1,000 miles popping up more severe and less sever false epicenters across 1/2 of this Continent (not country). Is the CDC rated to withstand a larger earthquake impact than a Nuclear power plant? I'm Certain there's a CDC storage containment vault in Georgia, and eventhough humans can't get into it- what happens when the sealing protocols are broken and something that has been locked away makes its way out. What happens after re-release into a new, non resistant populace? I think we're the equivalent of a sumo wrestlers trying to ice skate on 2 1/2 inches of ice right now.

I get my raw milk in New Carlisle. It's the only time I ever go there. It's pretty and hilly out that way...well, compared to right here. Miami Co. seems like the absolute flatest place in Ohio.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1255818

I'm born/bred/live in central Ky but I have immediate family living in Cincy, West Alexandria, and Dublin OH.

I'm retired from a federal gov job and I know that from about the last of July to the end of Sept, all departments were advised to finish expenditures so accounts could be balanced before end of federal year. As for bidding out POs, we had federal guidelines to follow on what had to be bidded on. I don't recall all of the guidlines and regulations since most of that was handled by the program accountants but I didn't bid out for anything unless it was over 5 grand. Even then there were instances where multiple agencies would collaborate to make bulk purchases to divide up between the agencies.

I'll say this too for the OP of this thread. There could be a bid process your company has used/taken advantage of without you having direct knowledge of it. The federal gov is doing a lot of contracts now and those aren't always under the same regulations that normal day to day operations might fall under. Depending on how the contract is written the bid process may have already been addressed within the terms of the contract and you wouldn't necessarily know that unless you'd read that specific contract.

So maybe you could do another check on the bid process that was/wasn't used just to alleviate any concerns you might have about the no bid portion discussed in your posts here. I'm a bit curious myself.

I will keep this short as possible because I took the time to write this out and the system didnt allow me to post.

There is a bid out for bags, blankets ans something else. I seen it. The winners must be able to supply 7 states that are close to the states with the madrid fault. They must supply the states in 24 hours.

I believe the there will be some thing or things hitting the earth in 2=3 weeks for 2 reasons:

And I believe that, seeing as I've taken in a LOT of information (probably a few gigabytes) in the past 6 months searching for an object responsible for a slight deviation in Jupiter's orbit from 2006-2011. My search brought me to the mysterious Comet Elenin (it's placement and timing were perfect)

But, now I've seen that it isn't the comet at all. It's what's behind it- So I'm literally just waiting until Elenin is visible in the sky, with it's blue glory- then I'm making a straight line for the nearest cave entrance to the underground (and I plan on raiding a supermarket along the way, jail me now if you care to try) and hoping I don't end up squished when the 2nd object (the one i've spent 1,000's of hours searching for evidence of and now have) passes Earth.

Hey OP

Some years ago I purchased some Israel gas masks sealed. Haven't looked at them in couple years. Based on this information I am thinking I may need to discard them? Any help on this for me.

Thanks for the info OP
 Quoting: Mukk1234

Typically... NBC filters for gas masks last at MOST 15 years. And that's stretching it. If they're just chemical filters you might be alright.

The gas mask itself should be fine, although I would use a banana to test the seal. If you put the mask on with a fresh filter, hold the unpeeled banana around the edges of the mask and breath. If you smell the banana, the mask isn't sealing properly (which is common for older masks.)

Bananas are one of the most recognizable and unique odors is why I'd suggest that.

However, if it's an old surplus mask, I would purchase new filters, or consider a new mask platform all together.
 Quoting: Jake101

Filters are made with activated charcoal, and alwasy have been. They can't become toxic unless they were used in a toxic environment and became saturated. The m17 scare etc are just "Urban legends" and heresay
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1519323

You're wrong. I work for the largest filter manufacturer in the world, filters are one thing I consider myself a near expert on.

Filters break down, and they become toxic. You're giving incorrect and dangerous advice.
 Quoting: Jake101

No, you're wrong and have now conclusively proven you are a fraud
there is only one kind, for a certain specific use (can't remember off the top of my head) that uses anything but charcoal. the scary myths come from the real fact that WWII british filters did have asbestos in them but those were the only dangerous filters ever produced. The only way filters, which ARE made with activated charcoal, become toxic is from absorbing too many of the chemicals they are supposed to.

Google is your friend, you may want to use it a little more in depthly than the first site you come upon ( like the one you used to get your info about gas masks for, a site selling gasmasks and perpetuating the myth to make a sale)

"Safety of old gas masks

Gas masks have a limited useful lifespan that is related to the absorbent capacity of the filter. Once the filter has been saturated with hazardous chemicals, it ceases to provide protection and the user may be injured. Most gas masks use sealing caps over the air intake to prevent the filter from degrading before use, but the protective abilities also degrade as the filter ages or if it is exposed to moisture and heat. Very old unused gas mask filters from World War II may not be effective at all in protecting the user, and can potentially cause harm to the user due to long-term changes in the filter chemical composition.

World War II gas masks contained blue asbestos in their filters, and this material continued to be used until at least 1956. Breathing blue asbestos in the factories resulted in death from mesothelioma of 10% of workers, and between 2.5 and 3.2 times the normal incidence of lung or respiratory cancers.[1] Some of the gas masks known to contain asbestos are the British MK4 and MK5 respirators which were issued to the majority of the British army during World War II. Current advice is never to wear any gas mask of uncertain military origin.

Many scare stories have originated from various Russian gas masks and their filters that are now common in surplus stores; the GP-5 was often considered to have an asbestos filter, however like most cold-war masks it only contains activated charcoal.

Modern gas masks are quite safe and do not use asbestos, but it is still important to be careful when using a modern gas mask. Typically masks using 40mm connections are more recent design. Rubber also degrades with time so new in box "Modern type" masks can be cracked and leak."

Nice editing work.

You're a liar, and for the life of me, I'm not sure why you would be attempting to get people to use dangerous expired filters. Nephrotoxicity is a bitch (and a side effect of expired antibiotic applicants,) and so is lung cancer. For those interested, I suggest you do your own research before relying on an edited Wiki article.

There are many excellent resources on Gas masks and filters.

Agendas abound.

ETA: If anyone is curious what that individual is referring to, he's getting information from a Wiki article. What he's neglecting to tell you is that oxygen (any H2O based exposure) is a "chemical" (his words,) that breaks down the filter. Do not use expired gas mask filters, the expiration involved also takes into fact the lifespan of the package the filter is sealed in.

You're wrong. I work for the largest filter manufacturer in the world, filters are one thing I consider myself a near expert on.

Filters break down, and they become toxic. You're giving incorrect and dangerous advice.

Do not use expired gas mask filters, the expiration involved also takes into fact the lifespan of the package the filter is sealed in.

you're an idiot. just google "toxic gas mask filters" you will get a 10's if not hundreds of articles, websites etc showing its a myth other than what I have said(toxicity by absorption, not "breakdown"), only a few propagating the myth of lethal manufacture components.....moron.

However, if it's an old surplus mask, I would purchase new filters, or consider a new mask platform all together.

the only agenda is the truth and exposing frauds/liars.....agendas abound yes...whats yours? Trying to salvage your role playing attempt? You are the one who supposedly sells filters, who has the agenda here? hmmm...
