FYI the thread was supposed to help others that dont have the funds or means to aquire a geiger counter to keep themselves and their families safe from all the radiation coming from various locations around the world. FFS it's not a geiger, it's a survey meter made with an ionization chamber, there is a difference, perhaps you are unaware? You can by them already made for cheap, theyre not any bleeding good until your hair's already faliing out and youre passing your guts. Most of you couldnt prepare a proper crepe, much less an instrument
You lot want a lego set to save you? FFS if your life is worth it buy a proper GM-tube device, and use it and if you really want to know what the rad rates are , get a scintillation crystal probe for it so you can count alphas, but you wont, they cost more than your have, even the surplus ones..
Otherwise, since youre too cheap to even get a basic geiger tube device, youre not gonna have the wherewithall to buy the kit you need to survive. The filters the clothes, the pills, the shilding, the clean food, It's all pretty dear when accumulated, even when you know how to get the components cheap and you need a fair amount, not just one days worth.
If youre not capable of doing a proper job with the proper tools, and following a proper comprehensive plan, all else is a bleeding WASTE OF TIME

You misunderstand, there is different "TYPES" of radiation.
A meter will read all types, or different types.
The meters that read all types and tell you the different types cost upward of $1000.
The cheap ones that just measure radiation itself are useless.
I know this I did some work as an electrician in a nuclear facility here used for medical radiation.
