My new "toy", (fixed blade EDC knife)...
After destroying many folding pocketknives over the years, I was looking for a different option. After some research, I narrowed down my choices to the KaBar/Becker Knife & Tool/ESEE BK14 "EsKabar", and the ESEE "Izula". I settled on the BK14 (mostly because of the price), and after using it for a few days, I am very happy with my decision. I wrapped paracord around my handle as well because you can never have enough cordage lmao

If anybody else is looking for a small but sturdy fixed blade knife for EDC (Everyday carry), these two knives would make excellent choices.

As always, consult your local knife laws before buying anything, and as the saying goes "The best survival knife is the one you have on you when the SHTF". hf

Also, for the $$, you may just want to get both lol

Be aware though that the BK14 does not come with a belt clip, and that you have to purchase the KaBar TDI belt clip separately. cheers

I'm a knife guy as well, and I've found that the best price versus quality seems to come from the Taiwanese Columbia River Knife works......

I've never been disappointed with them....quality steels, good hardness and edge retention and you can get them cheaply if you are a savvy shopper...

They do have some nice stuff, and Ken Onion just went over to them as well. I really like the look of the "shakaulu".

glad to see you made the jump to fixed. I was in the other forum talking about survival knives. Im also happy to report the good news that Ive run into no problems from authorities or business/society for carrying my cold steel kobun and cold steel gi tanto open carry everywhere in town (not at the same time). My friends and I are trying to make fixed blades a must have male accessory. My wife also open carrys a kobun. No other women that ive seen do here but shes gonna take it to knitting so we will see.

Here's a decent video on one way to wrap the handle (the BK14 handle is almost identical).

Or, if you prefer micarta scales, the ESEE "Izula" scales will fit the BK14 with some slight modifications.

Here's a video of somebody batoning wood with the "Izula"

Nice

Did anyone see Son's Of Guns where they tried to make a knife gun, shooting knife or something like that.
It didn't work but was a cool idea.

The hardest part was finding something that I could carry most places near Chicago and not get into too much trouble. Chicago's knife law says 2.5" is the limit, so that narrows down my fixed blade choices considerably. The BK14 is 3" or so, but I don't think that it would get me into too much trouble, it doesnt hang any lower than my Leatherman, and is affordable enough that if I "lost it" for some reason, I wouldn't be heartbroken. hf

Re: My new "toy", (fixed blade EDC knife)...
were easing into it. wv constitution recognizes our right to open carry pretty much whatever lawfully. The restrictions come with concealment. Several of our friends here open carry guns. We do upon occasion but we both cycle year round everywhere for transportation so oc gun isnt always compatable with our lifestyle. We started small and untilitarian started with small polite Mora 2000 and then moved to the kobuns and finaly to the gi-tanto/ my old kabar. We get second looks ocassionally but its more curiousity than fear. we live in a city of 45,000 with flat urban settings. Ive "ran into" on purpose several of the cops in our neighborhood and in the downtown district. They look hard but don't mention it in conversation. The only people who seemed put off by it were the drug dealing thugs I saw doing open air shit when I rode my bike through BP parking lot. Yeah Ive got nothing to hide thugnificant so I carry like a free man.

I've heard good things about the Griptillian, but I've destroyed so many folders that I was just ready for something different. I may change my mind again though lol

-Sorry, couldn't resist lol

Are the Benchmades Stainless Steel? I'm not a huge fan of stainless.

not all of them are stainless they have everything i just got a D2 tool steal, i also love the axis lock. bc say you have a liner lock knife and torque it the wrong way there is that possibility of cutting off a index finger. with the benchmade you cant release the axis lock when the blade is under pressure. kind of a fail safe.
Good news everyone!

I have an Aqualung/US Divers Master Dive Knife that I got from a SEAL.

It might only be because I'm a Jarhead, but I'm partial to KaBars lol

Plus, I'm not a huge fan of serrations. hf

How hard would you say it was to sharpen D2? Do you think I could sharpen it in the field fairly easily?
