As far as I could find this is a new situation. I live on the east coast and the hype around Irene all the way up the coast allowed them to get stuff put in everywhere. What kind of stuff? Who knows. They just say "sensors". Think about this. They had almost 300 sensors on hand to get in before Irene? It's August. They've had months. Could have been done any time, or state by state or whatever. No, they rush in to do something fast while nobody is paying any attention whatsoever and even if they did question something, well, there's a major hurricane coming, we have no time to debate this, etc. Who would questions a usgs guy (besides glp'ers, lol) if they saw one with equipment near a bridge doing official looking things before a majorly hyped hurricane?

I also have stuff in my trunk, toilet paper, water etc etc.

how to prepare? inform your family and have a bag with some money and supplies. Here in Portugal there are some high places where the tsunami can't reach so be prepared to leave anytime...when the risk is higher (when lots of quakes are happening) or when part of the island begins to fall before crating an tsunami...they say that it may reach the cost of my country about 1:30-2 hours I live more to the north so that takes more times...even tough it may reach me if I'm smart enough to go to the nearest and higher place the damage will be less or non-existence depending on how high I am

Great post OP. This event is very likely to happen and happen soon. We have entered a time of great catastrophe and we will be here for a while. This is a very real and close event . . . I can feel it.

I agree. If you just google future maps of America (images) u will see that it's not a far fetched idea that the East Coast will go under. Let's just look at Japan. . . people think things like this will NEVER happen, then they do.

I bet there has been a sharp rise in stress levels throughout the US and the World over the past few years and that is going to have an effect on the vibrations of our World and what happens. It's not all happening for no reason.

Bug out bags and plans are awesome no matter what may be in store. I live on the East Coast right by the water.. . . 1 1/2 to 2 hours is not enough time to get to the mountains even with a bug-out-bag at the door ready to go. I think those along the East Coast who can should go ahead and move inland, close to the mountains if possible. The East Coast could be sleeping in the middle of the night when this all goes down. . . . there won't be enough time then.

Let's all hope we can swim well if that does end up being the case.

If this really happens It will only affect USA east coast after 5-6 hours but I live in Europe...I've also drawn a map and if I leave as soon as the tsunami begins I can get to the mountains i 1h30m +/- Portugal geography is very different from USA. But still people living in USA have away more time to move from the coast

They will need it. Many more people in the east coast mega-cities. Nightmare traffic jams and panic.

It's ok and thanks for the information but I don't have iPhone the only sistem I can use is internet and I happen to realize that most websites don't show almost any quakes in europe and the only one who showed didn't said the magnitude neither how many where.
Right now I'm just interested in Canary Island quakes.

Sorry if I'm asking to much things or bothering glp to much but I can't help it I might have my life in risk and so all of my beloved ones.

(Honestly, for the US I am much more concerned of an east coast off-shore landslide of the continental shelf that would produce a 20 -30 foot wave with very little warning and time. But that is another story.)

Depends on where you are.
US: might be 9 feet; might be 300 feet.
Nobody really knows.
No evidence from history or geology to actually support such a large wave thousands of miles from a volcanic landslide of this nature.
