now imagine the sort of 'pieces' that could come off that.

tbh, i don't think any of the 'fragments' will hit us, and I'm hoping this 'splitting' will be a very spectacular sight in the skies.

It looks like a conjunction on or about Sept 27th: Mercury, Sun, Elenin and Earth.

If they don't read it all, they are missing out. This is good information for sure. And it has reenforced my theory that Elenin will break into very small pieces and rain down on us.. I never thought about it possibly becoming an annual event.... . scary to think about.

No the comets are the 2 white splotchy masses in the image. It had split apart from 1 and became 2 and then the 2nd fragment became brighter than the first.

As we all wait for the approaching comet to make it's appearance in our night skies, the thing I can tell you is to make sure you watch the Space Weather.

Space Weather is going to be revealed as the number one influence on celestial bodies in the next few years and Space Weather is one of those things that changes on a daily/hourly/minutely basis just like the weather around your local area.


As many people have noted, in the past as Comets have approached the Sun, sometimes it appears they can affect the Sun because of Coronal Mass Ejections in the direction of the Comet.

Dynamics of a small comet:

Previous papers discussed the existence of an excess current of protons in the solar wind. This excess current of positive charge leaves the sun with a net negative charge, forming a capacitor between the sun and rings which have been detected orbiting the sun, analogous to the rings of Saturn. The physics of the solar/saturnian systems and their capacitors are described in detail in the previously published series of papers.
The solar capacitor can be discharged when an asteroidal body enters the region between rings or between a ring and the sun. The visual portion of this discharge is commonly referred to as a "comet." The majority of activity In the cometary discharge, however, is not visible to the naked eye or telescope.

The presence of an element In the tail implies this element's presence in the solar rings which provide the source of comet tail material. Since water was determined to be a principle element in Saturn's rings, it is not surprising that it is also present in the sun's rings.

To say simply that water is seen as the primary constituent in cometary tails ignores the volumes of literature on spectroscopy of comets. Sometimes sulphur is prominent whereas heavy elements become evident in comets that pass near the sun. One of the difficulties with the ice ball model has been in explaining these patterns. The solar capacitor discharge concept explains that the tail composition depends on the source comet tail material, and therefore depends the location of the comet within the ring structures which surround the sun.

Well it looks like it happened. Leonid Elenin has posted his statement regarding Comet Elenin.

Unfortunately for us, Fate would have it that we arrive at another cliff hanger secnario.

"Overall, the most scientifically interesting thing is the breakup scenario, but unfortunately right now the comet is not visible to the largest telescopes or even the Hubble Space Telescope because of its close angular distance from the Sun (small elongation). On the other hand, amateur astronomers, awaiting this comet which might have been visible to the unaided eye, will now not see it, at least visually in their telescopes and binoculars.

We will wait for Sept. 23rd when the comet is due to appear in the field of view of the SOHO space coronagraph. Any result will tell us what we can expect at the beginning of October when the comet once again should appear in the pre-dawn sky. We will wait. The end of this story is near…


I can' tell you how excited I am that this is actually doing something different than a regular Comet.

This breakup of the comet has definite electric comet signatures all over it.

The mystery continues. We will wait for September 23rd.
