Well, it's not me: I don't seem to have a problem talking about anything.........but I sure run into a lot of people who do! :(

You see, if we do talk about it then a disagreement will result which will mean one or both of us will get bad karma and if the conversation is viewed as hate peach against the site, then one or both of us can get banned.

So, its better to just not talk about it.

jk OP... I imagine we all have our defenses OP. We all have guards in place (whatever the root of such things is).

Sometimes they are developmental (growing and learning).
Sometimes they are personal.
Sometimes they trigger thoughts and emotions which seem to difficult to bear at times.
Sometimes they are personal pride.
I am sure this list is long.

Whatever the reasons we have for our defenses. Respecting another's is also part of our own maturing and works towards our own patience. Particularly if/when we desire the best for another.

That's exactly the way I feel about it too.......but every so often I bump heads with my Christian friends here......and they just don't want to here about it!?! :(

Sometimes I get banned from topics because I ask the hard questions... So I know how you fell.
I just let it slide off my back, like water on a ducks back.
Still, it leaves you wondering, why do they bring up a topic if they don't want to talk about it.??.

Please one! Since i've returned, the christian threads are practically non-existant.

oh the christians I see now...Obe some of them there is no talking to at all. I gave up trying. Now anytime I see one of those threads I will skip right over it. Unless I am in a playful mood I might post something just to be a smart ass lol

Me too! It was not so long ago that the sciences were taboo subjects. Now, it appears that many of the pseudo-sciences have taken that role.

There is nothing wrong with a little head bumping, so long as it is done with mutual respect.

But could it simply be that your 'truth' is not their 'truth'?

It does not matter what the topic is, we see this. Spiritual discussion, however, do seem to create visceral responses.

And so the discussion quickly turns from sharing each others viewpoint in a respectful setting, "to your wrong and I am right".

And who wishes to engage in such a conversation? We see many here do such things. I have been guilty of such things also. But this type of conversation does not profit anyone.

No, I'll give you an example of what I am talking about:

A friend of the family visited us awhile back, and her son-in-law had recently returned from an LDS mission......so I asked him how he justifies that Joseph Smith had joined the Masonic Order 10 years after he started the Mormon religion?

A discussion ensued, and then after they left......approximately a year later, they wanted to visit again, but they said that they would only do so, if I promised not to talk about their religion again! lol

So I said "Sure, I can do that!".........but wouldn't their God want them to talk about it with me?

I just find it an interesting phenomenon for some reason!!! :(

Sure it does, there is a silent element here at glp, they read the exchange and decide for themselves. Their numbers are more vast than the actual posters/gladiators, and they cheer us all on, or boo us.

Religion puts a set of blinders on people and they are extremely afraid of having their beliefs rocked by the blinders taken off for even a split second allowing them to see the perepherial.

To me, it suggest that they did not want to talk about it, they wanted to talk towards it. They do not want to talk with someone, they want to talk at someone.

Noone finds it challenging to be polite and respectful towards someone who agrees with them.

But when one disagrees, that is a test for a man. That is where defenses go up.
