Stricter gun control??? New York State and New York City both have some of the strictest gun control laws in the country right now as it is. Taking legal guns away from good people = bad people with illegal guns taking advantage of good people without legal guns. In other words, criminals are less likely to attempt to commit serious crimes against others if they question whether its worth the risk of getting multiple holes punched through their bodies during the commission of said crime.
