Let us not forget that, despite a reputation somewhat to the contrary, diplomats and their underlings aren't totally devoid of a sense of humour. Let's consider two similar sentences: "MAYOR MEETS AMBASSADOR, CONFIRMS EXTRATERRESTRIAL LIFE" and "MAYOR MEETS AMBASSADOR, 'CONFIRMS' EXTRATERRESTRIAL LIFE" Now, I'm not familiar with the typograpic protocols where cable subject lines are concerned, but one can see how the minor variation demonstrated above can be taken to mean something rather different. The grand irony being this thread's subject.... :) |
