All three of those methods are actually FAILPROOF ways of gaining knowledge, unless of course you doubt your own ability to gain knowledge in which case you may fail. You might not be familiar with certain terms, but yes, information most certainly does lose integrity, from a security standpoint. I use security terms, because my education background is information security. I can assure you , from a background in information security, that information itself does lose integrity. Integrity, is the state of being whole. Are you saying information never comes in bits and pieces? |

The OP is correct. It is the nature of humans to embellish information, change it to fit current views, alter it to align with others views. I love physics. It bonds us eternally, it's what makes our computers work, it's what's in my morning cup of coffee, it's the thing that keeps the universe from vanishing due to lack of belief... |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 4342402 United States 11/15/2011 11:44 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | There are THREE ways a human being can gain knowledge. Quoting: supermarket 1) First hand experience / Direct experience. An example, is being in a car accident. You have had a direct experience of the situation, and thus you have knowledge of what happened. 2) Second hand information / Information Handed Down One example is someone who WITNESSED a car accident, giving a report to a police officer. The police officer now has second hand information....he has gained knowledge of the scenario, from an account of someone at the scene of the accident. Another example, is if the police chief read the report , made by the police officer. The police chief is curious what happened, so he reads the report of the accident, made by the officer on the scene. The police chief now have knowledge of the accident, based on a written report. 3) Intuition. The road you are driving on is slippery, and for some reason, you have a HORRIBLE gut feeling that something BAD is about to happen. You ignore the gut feeling, and as you put your blinker on to turn right, another car smashes into you. Your intuition gave you "knowledge" that something bad was going to happen. Another example: You are a history major, and based on studying the rise and collapse of many civilizations, 'something' tells you there is a pattern, and you see our current civilization on the verge of collapsing....although you haven't yet found the data to support your theory. Your theory is based on a pattern, that subconsciously you have discovered....but you haven't pieced it together yet. Now, I will re-iterate: There are THREE ways a human being gains knowledge on this planet. 1) Direct experience 2) Second hand sources 3) Intuition Out of these 3 ways of gathering information, which is fail proof? If you guessed NONE, you are correct. There is NO way of gaining information on this planet, that has 100% integrity. All information can lose integrity. An example of a first hand experience being compromised: You were involved in a car accident....but over the years, your vision is hazy. You have now told several 'varying' accounts of what exactly happened, and you don't know what to believe anymore. An example of second hand source corruption. You are reading the bible, and believe it to be the INFALLIBLE WORD OF GOD.....but you eventually realize that A) due to poor translation, and B) corrupted officials who have altered the text, the bible has lost its accuracy (JUST AN EXAMPLE GUYS) An example of corrupted intuition, is your emotions or opinions getting in the way. So, there are 3 ways to gain knowledge....now we come to the topic of Discernment. What is discernment? Discernment is the ability to weed out information from the 3 sources mentioned above, so as to get the most accurate picture of whatever it is you are trying to gain knowledge of. Every single person on earth has different capacities for discerning information. Some people have AMAZING intuitive abilities, but their logic sucks......therefore, they can rely MORE on their intuition, but LESS on their own accounts of what they are seeing. Other people have virtually no intuition at all, but they know how to study and reason greatly, therefore they learn a lot from direct experience, and from second hand accounts. So, I wish you all at GLP the ability to A) recognize the 3 ways which you gain information AND B) increase your capacities for discernment Should you gain only ONE thing from this web-site.....let it be this. You left out something. Revelation by the "Holy Spirit"! The ways of the "carnal spirit" are the "...3 ways..." you describe! |

User ID: 5343851 Australia 11/15/2011 01:54 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | There is correct knowledge. Fix a computer, i do it as a hobby. You have to KNOW what to do, so that it DOESN'T DO THAT FAIL AGAIN. And if it a different problem shows up, you fix that problem, so that problem doesn't show up again, until %100 stability is maintained, which generally gives the scenario of the computer staying running for 360 days without an error... that's pretty fucking fail proof, and not unheard of. And it can be exercised onto different topics, like an electric generator engine, built and tweaked and diagnosed so it remains a reliable source of power for say a hospital. OP has Failed. You cant blame the Decay rate of molecules and solid metals of 3rd dimension as a inclusive of "FAIL PROOF" things in life. Its starts fail proof (brand new item) but 3rd dimension decays that item, not the creator of that item. And what if 3rd dimension rate of decay slowed dramatically? nothing is fail proof from 3rd dimensional decay rate. Anonymous Coward User ID: 1555756 United States 11/15/2011 02:59 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | God gives ALL Truth - 100% and HE leads you into ALL Truth if you follow the Path laid out by Jesus. Not a "little bit" of truth, not "some" truth - ALL. USE ONLY GOD'S WORDS - do not rely on man to teach you what they mean. Pick up the Bible and call on God to lead you and to reveal the Truth. "And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you" John 14:16-17 "But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the Father, he shall testify of me:" John 15:26 "Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come"John 16:13 |

I see people every day that think their perception of truth is failproof. Many of them are full of delusion and self deception. Assuming your perception is foolproof is one of the easiest ways to get tricked. Because your perception itself can be tricked, as well as your intuition. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 5190987 United States 11/15/2011 05:09 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I agree with the original poster and: One gains knowledge by following instructions to test results or, by experimentation to test results. Repeated and controlled attempts help you to arrive at conclusions. The conclusions provide a knowledge base. The knowledge base is employed to help with reason. Reason and experience of understanding the results leads to wisdom. Knowledge is simply a platform upon which, one builds understanding. So the word 'knowledge' itself is indeed, not the be all and end all of 'knowing'. We humans have unique ability to reason to gather facts; and that is what allows us to progress in stages or, in our evolution. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 4082374 I'm also all for revelation by the "Holy Spirit" which in my mind is "Direct Experience" but the conclusion I've reached about that is that it is possible to be with God and know what he knows but once you're on Earth information has a tendency to lose stability, and if one were able to reliably bring the truth and knowledge of god into this world then it would be verifiable through reason and the experience of it, both first and second hand, and through intuition, and the results would speak for themselves. |
