How does this nerve normally function?
The sciatic nerve, like most other nerves, performs two basic functions: first, it sends signals to your muscles from the brain; and second, it collects sensory information from the legs and passes this back to your brain. Conditions such as sciatica that affect the nerve will alter these normal functions. This usually manifests as either weakness of these leg muscles, pain in the legs and thighs, or both.

I live with the "lack" of it daily, you don't have to tell me. It's the lack of "feeling" when it's "not" connected. The pain is when it is "connected". Take it from someone well verses. Or not. I give freedom to everyone as I have given up :-) on right and wrong ;-)

Same message. Plus, don't believe all the gloomy forecasts from the doctors. They like to cover their butts so they aim low and claim low. Don't get despondent, Erika, NIN is a strong and self-reliant woman. My guess is that she'll amaze the doctors with her progress.

I have high hopes for Erika! She is used to all of this by now. She's going to excel in life!

Healing

I am not telling you anything. Just trying to give info that was ask. I also have nerve damage in both legs and but that don't stop me, just makes me a little more cautious of what I do. Again no disrespect..

Seeing those pictures made me sad but tonight I will pray for along time for healing and comfort. Peace be upon you NINzrez. Love you...

There is hope NiN. I had a similar experience forty years ago. Said I would lose use of leg, all doom and gloom.

On the phone with Steph and she saw some of this post via a netbook someone lent her at the hospital briefly and is upset

she says

the business email she used for the donation is because her daughter didnt know how to make a new one, so they used this one and she is laid up in the hospital and couldnt make a new one, could she? Her poor daughter didn't know how to do a new one- she is NOT digging for donations she says, she is insulted by the mean stuff here. Her business has been dissolved for 2 yrs but she retained the old paypal associated with it.

Re the 'missing tattoos'- the pics of the lady with tats on the leg are KACI DeVILLE one of her good friends whom she has many many photos of and took the pictures for her former modeling agency.

Her burns and scars were from a house explosion many years ago, her entire left side was injured while sleeping-- now it's her entire right side. She is not 'begging' but is thankful for those who are helping, as this is a huge hardship.

She's upset and sad people are trying to tear her apart. What bothers her is that it's making people she DOES communicate/like question her motives. It's cruel and needless.

I am on the phone with this poor woman as she struggles to communicate these things to you all when she SHOULD instead be focusing on resting and getting better.

Shame on you people!

She's never before asked for ANYTHING and those who know her KNOW that she gives and gives whenever asked and has never bothered for anything in return.

She also keeps expressing thanks for all the positive prayers and thoughts sent to her and would like now to focus on this. However, I am writing this for her because she feels the need to set some of you all straight and I don't blame her. She is NOT a scam artist.

Also to accept donations thru paypal it is Necessary to have a premier account, so this left over from the business account works for that. So no more stuff people, in this and the other thread. Apparently you are not familiar with hospital cuisine. The closest thing to juice is either orange or tomato, and if they can be co-erced into a vitamin pill they'd probably charge her ten dollars.

Of course I realize that you are referring to her recuperation at home, but the mental picture of NIN telling the nurses that she wants fresh-squeezed juice and vitamin supplements and forgoing her pain meds made me smile for a moment. I hope it makes her smile too!

NIN knows what this site is like, SOME people on it, just ignore them people like we always do.

Where are people's hearts?? This woman, whom I don't know personally, but follow her thread everyday is very down to earth and very sweet and kind to everyone. She has many friends on this site and it was those FRIENDS who suggested creating funding for her to help her out. It was NOT her who asked for money.

If those of you who think this is a scam why bother coming to this thread then.

"Pay it forward" ever hear of that? Kindness goes a LONG way and gives you good karma, and I'm not speaking of GLP karma.

You've been on GLP long enough to know about all the childish, simple-minded narcissists that only feel alive while making fools of themselves parading their affliction... Ignore them! Count your blessings instead; that shard could have so easily been deadly!

We've never talked and I don't think I've ever even posted on one of your threads, but I've starred them and appreciated your presence on GLP. You have lots of invisible friends, just like me here who are keeping you in our prayers.
