Cantor's blog post was headlined "President Obama's tax on soup kitchens." That is misleading in two important ways. First, Obama did not single out soup kitchens for special tax treatment. And second, the proposal is not a tax on soup kitchens, or any other charitable organizations; it effectively increases the existing tax burden on a small percentage of households, which may indirectly cause disincentives for donations to soup kitchens. This bill is useless.
1) Extend unemployment (again)
2) A spectrum auction. The 700MHz band will save the economy?
3) Tax break if you give someone a raise. I guess the hope here is you get them into a higher tax bracket.
4) Tax break if you hire someone who is terminally unemployed. Ummm, what are they going to do with no customers? At least they will have the 700MHz band to use.
5) Build roads and bridges. Overplayed. This was tried and didn't work in 1930s. Remember "shovel ready"?
6) Pay for it by the elimination of donation incentives and oil credits. Corporate welfare sucks, but you really want to do this right now? Guess who will make up that revenue on the other side of the ledger entry. And who makes the large donations to charities? Oh, yeah, the ones losing their incentive. I wonder if ACORN is exempt.

Obama couldn't do a better job of destroying this country if he were trying.

I think you knew what I meant there. Charities aren't being taxed, people will donate less because they will be losing after-tax income.
