I haven't read all of the replies to this post but thought I would put in my two cents, for what it's worth.
Personally, I was born in Texas but I've lived in several other states. I currently am back in Texas and this is my take on this state.
If you talk to most people here, we aren't arrogant or prideful. People are loving and sincere and will help you out if you ever need it.
The land in this state sucks. At least for most of it anyway. There are some cities and areas where there are real trees and green grass but this year it's hard to find.
The sad thing about this whole 'Texas' issue is that people in this state are being 'stereotyped'. Its like saying everyone is like Obama because we are from the USA. You just can't put everyone in one category.
The food here is absolutely delicious and we love to eat with our friends and family. We love people - period.
I'm not personally fond of the whole 'cowboy' image, nor the whole 'horse and cattle' thing, and I DETEST smelling cow manure first thing in the morning when there is a good breeze!
It's basically not about a certain 'state' of the USA. It's about people and everyone is different. There will be good people and bad people wherever you go in your travels around the USA and the world.
Please don't bunch all Texans into one big bag and say we are one way or another. We are all human beings and we are individuals that deserve respect, no matter where we live.

We deserve it. We've overbuilt, over-fished, polluted, then turn around and blame the federal government for not shelling huge tons of money (loaned from china) to save our asses when we should have been saving our own money instead of the continued bullshit stadiums, school/school board expansions/castle schools, and electing terrible "leaders".

We should be bashing ourselves a shit-ton more than those "yankees" do.

For a state that most love to hate, Texas sure is getting an influx of people moving in from California and the Northeast!

Texas has grown 20% in population from 2000 to the 2010 census. The entire us population only grew 9.7% in that same period.

My first time here, I cursed the ground I stood on ( basic training will do that to a man), my second time here, Texas welcomed me with open arms and gave me a home. I can proudly say that I have lived here longer than the home I grew up in. Even though my children were born in North Dakota, it is Texas that they call home.

I am proud of my Texan and Tejano brothers and sisters, every one else can go to Hell.
