Someone broke into our house this afternoon

Why minimize the crime? You make it sound like it's okay to steal and burglarize long as no one gets hurt. It's not okay, and it injures people even if it is material possessions. Crimes like that are an outrage against society and not excusable even IF no one got hurt because no one was home at the time.

the security industry here.

Remember, just encase this was a neighbor scoping out your property while at work, when you get new stuff, bring them in at night and DO NOT leave the boxes in the trash, etc. Take them to a dumpster a distance away. I always do this with big ticket item purchases. Also, if you have kids of any age, see if they are hearing anything from school, etc., and take not of their friends, and maybe not allow them, in your house anymore. Same with questionable friends, family...

Sorry this happened OP.

There have been a bunch of burglaries around here lately. My friend got robbed last week while she was out picking up the kids at school...My friend has a big dog - a lab that was useless. They broke in to the house by popping open a lock on a brand new window. Took a dog toy and threw it into the half bath...dog followed and they locked her in there. They took a laptop from the kitchen, jewelry from upstairs and the kid's piggy bank money (urgh).

When I was a teenager my house was robbed while we were in it. I was in my room and my parents in the living room. They climbed into my parent's bedroom and went through all their stuff...opened all my Mom's jewelry cases very neatly and stole...nothing. I think that made my Mom feel worse than anything!

So they can be alive to sue you? Get a 12 gauge

you're missing the point of the violation of act, and i would rather the robber get shot during the process of a robbery, know of a few who have been shot dead.. you're the one who needs to grow up.. and don't kid yourself, depends on the value of the guns...this ain't about rehabilitating... you have more compassion for the robber than you do the victim of the crime.

I recommend the following:

Security doors: Home Depot and Lowes carry them cheap. Dead bolts on every door in addition to the security doors.

You have the alarm, if no service you can buy auto dialers that will call your cell phone.

Window locks, and preferably security bars over your windows...

Also draw the curtains and shades on your house when no one is home, might even think about, or if you have another vehicle to park out front to make sure someone is home. Also leave a radio or tv on, for same purpose.

Am so sorry to hear this! Hope they can track these people, if any of your items are really specific, maybe that will help find the burglars.

Sounds like your "pets" are fairly useless.

Get bigger "pets" that will do their job, that is, protect the castle.

I'm sorry to hear it . I know how it feels, we were robbed a year ago. Someone broke into our home while we were all in bed asleep. It isn't about the material possessions, it the fact that someone has violated your sanctuary. I hope karma hits them hard.

People have got hurt at break ins at my home. Burgulars have

nasty falls on unfamiliar property.

The last one claimed a twenty dollar note blew out of his

pocket and landed on my balcony and he was only trying to

retrieve it.


The police beat him up some more when they got there too, yes

you are allowed to detain them until police arrive.(in NSW

anyway)

Sorry to here your home was violated Op, unfortunately, they

will probably be back in the time it takes for your insurance

claim to be processed, or if they saw something they didn't

get the first time.

They probably know your routine from observing your house,

I would think of a trap and do what the law allows you in

regards to protecting yourself against intruders.

Sorry to hear of your situation. Definitely check your local Craigs List. Some people who steal are stupider than you think.

Oh, you may also want to think about installing a few hidden cameras with no visible wires and recording system. They are fairly cheap. Install at front and back doors, hallway, and living room, etc.

...and maybe put up some fake ones out side that are VERY VISIBLE but TELL NO ONE of the cameras inside or that the outside ones are fake...

Even your own kids or family/friends...

and it was someone the op knew.
they knew where to look and grab and go under 10 minutes.

start talking to pawn shops 10 to 25 mile radios of your home ask any of your neighbors if they have cameras pointing towards you home or drive way it sucks but i have to tell you it may be one of your friend with a job lose within the last 6 mount to a year or more some on that knows the lay out of your home your schedule or a recent delivery have you bought anything with in the last 6 months is your home for sale has it been showed recently these are some things to think about

Your laptop? Yikes. That sucks. They are probably snooping through everything right now, reading your email, sharing secrets with your friends, updating your bookface thing or whatever they call it. You didn't have any home made porn on there did you?

Well, next time, set booby traps. Claymore mines work pretty well (although it's easier to move instead of cleaning up after one takes out some bad guys).

You have any kids living with you? If so, it was probably one of their friends (they usually know where everything is an can act fast). Or a neighbor kid. It usually is. Or the neighborhood drunk or loser.

Install and automated sentry system... :)

how did they get your guns? werent they locked up if you werent home?
