Re: Spiritual Preparedness - simple practices and meditations to increase self-awareness
I am going to post simple, practical suggestions of how to maintain (or be able to keep returning to) spiritual awareness amidst the chaos of the everyday tasks and challenges of modern day life. I will endeavour to post 2 or 3 practical tips per week, so new readers be sure to read earlier posts.

We know a lot about being human and the physical aspects that go along with that, but how much do we really know about 'being'? How often are we actually living the present moment, right here and now and not trapped in traumas/joys of the past or fantasies/concerns of the future?

»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»
The simple technique for today is to take some moments to become aware of where you think the energy of 'you' sits within your body. When you communicate with another person, where is it you 'tune in' to when you speak with them? When you look at a pet, where does your attention go?

Many say they feel themselves to be in the heart region of the body or the solar plexus and of course there is energy in those areas too, but when we really become aware of where 'I' reside, it is behind the eyes, centre forehead and this is where we look when we communicate with each other. This is where we look at a pet when we spend time with it too. Oftentimes we put our foreheads together with loved ones and favoured pets. This is where consciousness sits and from that point emotions and energy spread throughout the physical body and beyond into the atmosphere.

Building awareness of this and coming back to 'being' that energy right here and right now looking out from the eyes is a really good place to start. When communicating with others, notice how their energy and personality radiates from their head and eye area.

The pineal gland sits directly centre of the head - sometimes this is referred to as 'the seat of the Soul'. The 'third eye' is another term you have probably come across. The eyes are said to be the windows of the soul. The brain is not consciousness, it is more like a state of the art computer - the pineal gland is where consciousness sits, where soul meets matter - the control room.

............Excellent!!! I have tried and tried to practice meditation; even have a CD for it......but I seem to 'get it' and then it becomes almost a chore, to be gotton over with!! and I do not like having this attitude.........I can 'sort of' block out all the chatter experienced, and am slowly getting good at it, but WHY do I have this 'get it over with' mentality about it????
Any suggestions will be appreciated.......the CD is from a company called "Brain Synch' and it's for meditation..Thanks!!!banana2

Have you ever tried to meditate in a bath of warm water? (not too hot, just above body temp). If you set aside 'you time', light some candles, put in some nice bath salts and give yourself the time for your body to relax. Focusing only on the breath at first, slowly repeat circular breathing technique (covered in earlier post on page 1) basically no pause between out breath and in breath but a flow of one to the other. Concentrate on feeling one thing - either breath entering and leaving nasal cavity or belly rising and falling.

After a few minutes, your body will be much more relaxed and hopefully the chatter of the mind will have settled too. Now move on to thoughts about being the non-physical energy sitting within the body behind the eyes. Choose a quality to tune into - peace is generally most popular but it could be love, happiness, courage etc. Imagine your body is bathing in this quality and that you the soul are also bathing in this energy, tapping into a never ending source of this feeling which emanates outwards from 'you' and fills the room and beyond.

Even if you get just a moment of real experience, it will be your experience and one you will not forget, this will make mediation less of a chore as well as something you can build on. Oftentimes I feel like I am bathing in a golden red light, leaving the eyes open is helpful too, resting them on a candle perhaps. Keep experimenting, download new guided mediations or just use your own thoughts.

Sitting in nature to meditate is also helpful but ultimately we need to be able to meditate anywhere in any situation, with practice! :) :hf:

Dear Pharista your thread helped me remind our true nature as human beings.

i readed a lot of Taoism (tao te king, Lao Tse), Buddhism (Buddha´s Sutras), Induism (Baggavad Ghita), and other eastern and western Religions and teachers, but the way you write your wisdom is so simply that just strikes me, i will try to practice this, remind myself who WE ARE.

sorry for the english,
a big hug,
Alejandro.

Thank you for your heartfelt comments Alejandro. I too enjoy teachings better when they are told from experience and not just dry knowledge. Much of what I have learned is from teachings like you have studied but what I share is from my own experience.

I am glad this resonates with you hf

Re: Spiritual Preparedness - simple practices and meditations to increase self-awareness
A little background - As far back as early childhood around age 5 or 6, I remember thinking to myself thoughts like 'If I hadn't ended up here with this mummy and daddy, I'm sure I'd still be here but maybe with a different mummy and daddy, but I know I am supposed to be here' & 'There has got to be more to me than just this body'. I noticed that the 'me' staring out of the eyes of my rapidly changing and growing body remained the same - not in terms of knowledge and education but of personality, of essence whatever it is that makes me 'me' - that was constant and unchanging.

I become aware of myself right here and now in this present moment, sitting in this body, in this place where I have given myself time to relax, time to put aside the labels I have attached to this physical body. This is my deserved time to just 'be'. Who is it who is looking out? who is it who is aware of these thoughts and experiences? I feel waves of peace washing over me and through me as the body breathes in and out. This is the experience of being 'Me'.

As far as the above link, do a right-click on the link.
Depending on your browser, there should be an option to 'save as'. Click on the 'Save as' option. A window should open up, and allow you to save this as an MP3 file. Then you can use your favorite audio player to listen to it offline.

Also, THANKS Pharista for being here and providing some sorely needed spiritual backing in these times.

BLESS YOU.

I guess you could search for free mindfulness downloads. Or invest in a mindfulness albumn download, anything by Jon kabbat zin is very good.

I run a mindfulness group at home and I prep all the tracks I want to use for the session on my Pc and have them lined up, or I create playlists on my mp3 player. I also include pockets of silence. for outdoor meditation I just harness sounds of nature or even just sounds of modern life. meditation really is possible anywhere.

oops, I realized I hadn't signed in- I posted at 2:19.

OP, I like what you suggested about the bathtime meditation. That in itself has helped me tremendously.
I also like that meditation is something we can tailor to our own needs, likes, and what is comfortable for us. Meditation is so much more versatile than many people perceive it to be. There truly are no rules, only guidelines or tips to help us customize our own individual practice. It's an amazing gift and healing tool.
Thank you so much for spreading such positive and helpful information.I'm pleased to see many posters replying to your thread!

Re: Spiritual Preparedness - simple practices and meditations to increase self-awareness
An NDE showed me that our conciousness resides throughout our entire body. It's like a fire that illuminates and pervades every cell. That spark of life, the fire and light of our consciousness is a direct extension of God and anchors in the heart chakra, then spreads its light and life throughout the rest of our body.

I learned each of our chakras are portals, when we withdraw our consciousness from every cell, it gathers into a ball unto a specific chakra where a portal is opened and we go through the tunnel of the portal into a different dimension.

Thank you GoodHeart. I agree meditation is a very individual experience, for me it is about aiming to get four basic steps right, after that where I go with it is very much up to me, in fact it is all about enjoying being without too much thought at all.

1. Getting body more relaxed through attention to breathing or even burst of exercise, stretching or yoga, hot bath etc (whatever works for you)

2. Settle the chatter of the mind through present moment awareness techniques, focusing on breath, sounds of nature, meditation music etc and keep bringing the mind back to the present moment when aware of it wandering off.

3. Tuning into a spiritual awareness of eternal self/true self sitting in the body, behind the eyes. A point of eternal energy whose true nature is peace.

4. Dipping into a universal source of unlimited peace, bliss, unconditional love - This experience is beyond words, though some would perhaps label it, Source, Universe, Supreme, Creator, God.

Words are unimportant, it is personal experience that counts as well as positive benefits which begin to manifest in every day life as a human being. This becomes the proof of the importance of spirituality in our everyday lives.

Absolutely, I can sit here and put my attention to my right foot or any other part of my body and become intensely aware of it, I have no doubt that our energy pervades every cell of our bodies, also that cells are capable of holding emotional energy both negative and positive. Sometimes you hear of those who have had a heart transplant for example who pick up habits and emotional leftovers from the organ donor who passed on. Energy of individuals or groups energies can be left in buildings and locations too.

As I understand it, the essence of the soul (which is non physical anyway so impossible to measure in physical terms) sits centre brain near the pineal gland and visual cortex behind the physical eyes - the control room if you like. Scientifically it is shown now how close the heart and brain interact with each other in emotional matters and why we feel a lot of our emotions in the heart area.

I understand meditation to be a tool with which we can cleanse our spirit, mind and bodies as well as have an effect on the atmosphere around us too. Each of us holds great purpose and spiritual responsibility if we choose to take it.

Thank you for sharing, an NDE must be a very powerful experience. I have only experienced it in a lucid dream after my mother passed away.

It was extemely powerful, I've never felt so out of control in my life. It was like a giant hand scooped me up when I went through that tunnel.
I relate to the heart area because that is where my soul left my body when I briefly died.

But I did have another almost nde experience with almost exiting through the 3rd eye portal.
I have severe sleep apnea and that's what I attribute it to because it happened at night.

But that time I left through my heart, I know the cord was severed. But I got to a point on the other side, I had a choice to stay or come back. I started thinking about how I wasn't ready to leave this identity and life. Then I was shot back at light speed back through the tunnel back into my heart and my consciousness spread throughout my body. I was very aware of where I was. I was in my chest, I didn't have any of my 5 senses back. Just pure I AM consciousness.

My consciousness actually caught on fire before I went through the tunnel and when I came back, like with the Merkaba or light body. My soul went through as a light being and came back as a light being.

I just felt the need to share because it was such a powerful experience.
I'm not trying to hijack your thread btw,..just sometimes the experience comes back so strong and I can't help but share. It's so incredible that there really is life after death.

It's wonderful to share your experience, what a life changing event. If your experience was of leaving and re-entering through the heart (portal/chakra) then that is what it was. Perhaps it is possible to leave the body through different areas. I would like to look into nde experiences more. Interesting about your sleep apnea experience too. Will you seek medical attention for it?

It sounds like a kind of purification? Have you felt completely different since your NDE? are you a more open-minded spiritual person since this experience? and what were your concepts before it happened to you? How old were you when you had the Nde?

I found this info at this link [link to www.visionquestastrology.com] - interesting:-

'I believe that kundalini energy is triggered in NDE experiencers, as well as in the general population, as we progress through the rites of passage of the six major outer planet transits that take place between the ages of 28 and 60:

Transit Corresponding Chakra
the Saturn Return (ages 28-30) the root chakra
the Pluto Square (ages 36 to 44) root and solar plexus chakras
the Neptune Square (ages 42-44) solar plexus and heart chakras
the Uranus Opposition (ages 40-43) heart and third eye chakras
the Chiron Return (ages 48-51) third eye and crown chakras
the Second Saturn Return (ages 59 to 60) crown chakra

Whether aware of their astrological/philosophical significance, or not, all people undergo significant shifts in consciousness as they pass through these important life thresholds'.

I have been researching this exit point on various sites and one concept is that the soul can exit from any of the chakras or even the physical exit points, eyes, nose, ears etc. Another concept was that the soul (in light body) leaves via whichever spiritual chakra level it has reached. It's a very interesting topic. Thank you.

Re: Spiritual Preparedness - simple practices and meditations to increase self-awareness
My nde-like experience was during a vivid dream after my mother died, she came to visit me and I was asking her lots of questions about dying. I said to her 'I thought the dead couldn't contact the living' and she replied 'I told you I would find a way'. She had told me that when she was in declining illness. She asked if I would like to know what it was like to leave my body and the next thing I was rushing forward at great speed but I was in a light body.

Something was pulling me back, it was my right arm which was holding onto a wallet, I let the wallet go and my arm came forward, I felt such an incredible feeling of joy and freedom, I was happy to be out of my material body. Next thing, I seemed to jolt back into my body and sat upright in bed gasping air, I was really disappointed at the time because the experience had been so beautiful I didn't want to come back to my 'miserable' life.

Two days later my brother (a skeptic about soul/life after death) came to me and asked if I had had a dream of our mother and had she shown me what it was like to die. Apparently she had visited him too and chastised him when he turned the experience down, she said 'your sister had no problem when I spoke to her two nights ago'. It blew him away but for me it re-inforced that the experience had been real, and I took the message of the wallet to mean not to put my attention on material wealth.

I have no memory of which part of the body I entered or re-entered or perhaps it was just a very powerful dream where my mother's spirit had visited me.

My mother also appeared to one of her best friends with whom she had made a pact that whoever died first would visit the other to let them know what it was like. My mother had appeared to her friend who lived on the other side of the world, she was floating above her in a dream/or half sleep and she said 'There's nothing to worry about, it's ok, it's ok'. Since then her friend lost all fear of death.
