Unusual seismic waveform

The east coast has been picking up energy lately from somewhere.

Strange!

Either a malfunction or a bit of tremor, is the mountain a volcano?

If so they do that every now and again, it's not always something to worry about.

It is the east end of Chilhowee Mtn., which is the northern edge of the Smokies, 2 or 3K tall and isolated, non-volcanic.

Somebody's been using a chainsaw nearby.

Oak Ridge nearby, mostly limestone with caverns in this area (ie. TUNNELS)

The episode was 18.5 min. in duration with spikes at each end, starting around 0800 EDT. Copper Ridge station seems to be pretty sensitive, and shook pretty good about 2 hrs. later.

well how about that, even the energy and the way it transfers is changing.

There was a 2.2 in Puerto Rico about then, but their 3.1 15 minutes earlier is nowhere to be seen.

Haha, I saw the volcanic warnings. The ridge I'm on has a mineral spring where our 1st governor John Sevier lived. Even farther south, the Lost Sea, a huge underground lake. Tremors here sound like someone pounding on a tank full of water

Noticed two EQ's in Robbinsville, NC a day later, 30 mi. due south of Green Top. Any HAARPers seen similar waveforms?

OK, I slept on it. I think I know that waveform. Somebody parked close by (incredible view up there) with the stereo cranked up. Pink Floyd 'Welcome to The Machine'-the end part with the elevator and crowd noises-slowed down to 1/20 speed or so.

C'mon I need some shills for entertainment. Riddle: what gets wet while it is drying????

these odd wave forms will increase. this is the matter shaking from the WAVE raising the vibrations.

HAARP does NOT do that. It is an ionosphere heater, nothing more.

well I won't rule that out but its an awfully short term drilling very close by to show on that. Must not be a big drilling job.

My point is, there is increasing matter vibrations going on all over, and there will be more and more odd patterns and reports of the ground vibrating, as being different from quake type shaking. The matter is awfully resident, its as dense as matter gets on a world supporting life. This could happen suddenly but its not, going a bit at a time.

That is a possibility.

Not all the wiggles seen on the seismograms are due to earthquakes. Anything that produces ground vibrations could be recorded, for example a car that passes by the seismometer (this is why we try to locate most of our seismometers well away from roads). Since the electrical signals from the seismometers are typcally transmitted to the University of Memphis over FM radio electro-magnetic interference may also show up on the seismogram. Such noise is usually easy to distinguish from earthquake generated signals because the the noise is often "spikey" in appearance. Telemetry dropouts may cause sustained periods of high amplitude noise.

Other interesting signals may be recorded. For example trains or man-made blasts (for example the quarry and mining activity in Central and Eastern Tennessee regularly seen on most stations).

Hi Daisy. From my window, sunrise at the winter solstice is right over this point on the mountain where this station is located. Since I was a child, that mountain has caught my attention. Directly behind is Mt. LeConte, rising over a mile straight up from Gatlinburg. It's the tallest slope in the eastern U.S. Green Top is physically isolated, but you can talk to the world on shortwave up there.

Could it be the Monday morning ~0700 train coming thru? I noticed it ran an hour later under daylight time

Im not sure if this is related, but a couple of months ago there was a story on the local news about people in a neighborhood being awakened at night by very loud banging noises. The neighborhood was in Blount Co if I remember correctly, and the story was on Volunteertv. IMHO it has to do with the caverns underground.

Can anyone convert it to sound? Apply the 40 octave rule. Sound is 40 above the planet freg. Visible light is 40 above that. I'm not equipped here. The two Mon. morning (12/5, 12/12) waves are nearly identical.

Bedtime now, maybe they'll let me sleep past 8.

Those waveforms look like a station with a digitizer or other component that is intermittently in error. Also could be ice- a notorious cause of strange signals on seismometers.

But the mere fact that no other stations picked it up means it is localized, not likely seismic in nature, and as stated, probably just a station in error. I see them all the time.

I saw a similar one from another area station. NIP's wave prognosis sounds better than a train to my con-aspirin ears. I read that they vary the pitch to keep us off balance.
