Most pastors today teach a Scofield doctrine they learn in seminary. This places Rev 4 on as end time events in the Great Tribulation of 7 years. This teaching is called Futurism, throwing all prophecy into the future, also called Christian Zionism.

There are many problems with Futurism so confusion about the final events is understandable.
