I've started taking Zoloft (setraline), any experienced users here?

Don't take it makes you worse its for people who are literally slitting their wrists.

I've been on it for about a decade. I find it very effective for me, even in small doses. It puts a "floor" under me so that I don't go spiraling down the depression hole again. It doesn't make me numb unless the dose is too high.

I have found that it "poops out" for me after a year or two, so what I do is cycle it. My problem seems to be in large part day-length associated (I'm way worse in the fall than the spring) so each spring I taper down, stay off it for about a month in the summer, then taper back on.

That seems to reset it and once the again the very low dose I'm on is effective. If I don't taper off and back on then I have to increase the dose in the fall and I don't like the way I feel at the higher dose.

Another tip - make sure you get plenty of Omega 3 fatty acids, Vitamin B, Vitamin D, and exercise. These will help your mood, and may permit you to use a lower dose (or you may not need it at all). I find that this combo works for me in the summer but in winter it's not enough to overcome the SAD.

If you drink alcohol even a few drinks could result in blackouts. Most the time sobriety is what cures the moodiness not zoloft or the shrink.

My first zoloft I took, knocked me out for the whole day. I was a zombie all day, couldn't even get out of bed. Zoloft helped with my ocd, and depression possibly, but it made me not care about anything anymore. Everything I cared about, was interested in bored me. It also made me drink more, go figure, i got off that shit after 2 years, and never went back.


now that i think of it, every person i see on anti-depressants, look and act like zombies.

I took my first pill today a couple hours ago. I'm feeling like im on amphetamine or a mild ecstasy dose. My jaw is tense and im really hot. Fuuuck.

You'll be ok, but I think I would take the time when you are on this "medicine" as a time t reflect on what made you unhappy in the first place.

It's ok to take pills to lift your mood, but while you're in an artificial state of happiness and less caring about the world around you, look at what your mind is telling you that you REALLY don't care about anymore. What triggered you to be so depressed, and now you look at and say "this doesn't bother me anymore."

It's when you understand the source of your discouragement that you can begin to work through the issue, understand how it applies to your life, and overcome the difficulty by ordinary social and mental methods. You don't need a pill to be happy, but a pill can help you work through why you are unhappy to begin with.

I have been taking soloft for the past 2 years. Works great for me. I only take 50 mgs. Anything higher and I zone out. Yes the first few days you will feel like you are on xtc - it's the seratonin -butafter a few days it goes away.

The second I stop taking them I got better. Please do research in pharmaceutical companies!

I've been on it for a couple of years now, but in combination with Wellbutrin (they do work better together).

The first week I was taking Zoloft was pure hell. I had incredibly bad headaches; felt like someone was slowly tightening a steel band around my head and I was waiting for my skull to crack. In addition, it made me unbelievably sleepy, yet I could NOT sleep. I was completely miserable and unable to function except at the bare minimum level.

The doctor had told me there was a good chance stuff like this would happen for the first week to 10 days and then ease off, so I stuck it out.

He was right; after a week those side effects went away very quickly.

I have to say that Zoloft does work for me. I'm pretty good most of the time. When something unexpected happens that could be a negative impact, even if intellectually I know it isn't all that serious, I have sort of an ongoing low-level panic attack for the next 12 or so hours; typically after I 'sleep on it', I'm back to normal when I wake up and can start thinking about how to solve the problem. I'm still functioning during the 'panic'... it's just on my mind constantly with worse-case scenarios swilling around occupying my attention. But as noted, it doesn't last long.

I am FAR better with it than I was without it. I had been on other antidepressants before, but Zoloft is by far the best of those that I have tried, at least for me. The first week was miserable, but after that I've been pretty satisfied with the results.

Drink a liter of water and you will feel better.

Your body has to adjust to this chemical. Which is a sign on it's own that it's not healthy for you.

But because you are going to ignore all the people who warn you against taking such an antidepressant please remember this: Depressions are common and they have root causes, an imbalance in your life. In other words, you need to change something in your life. Find the root cause and work on it.

If you really feel you need a substance like that. Don't take it longer than a couple of months. If you are taking antidepressants for more than a year, you are not working on solving anything and you are most likely hooked on the substance.

You need to work on yourself.

That happen to me the very first time i tried Lexapro, was bloody strange!

They pass these things out indiscriminately.

Get off now before your brain is rewired!

Try a more holistic approach!

you may feel crappy for a few days while you're body adjusts to it...that's normal....if anything make sure you take it as prescribed cuz the withdrawal symptons are wicked

If youre a male it often prolongs the length of time it takes to orgasm. Does that help?

Paxil prevented me from having an orgasm. Zoloft does make it take longer, though.

My daughter was on zoloft for a few months and she got off of them. It took her a few months to feel 'normal' after. I wouldn't take them JMO. Even after a few months she went through a kind of withdrawel..nightmares, what she called 'brain zaps' and other assorted symptoms. Nobody needs that kind of garbage in their body. Op , I would just toss those and get to the root cause of your depression.

I dont want to take this med. It seems crazy i know and i know how fucked up it is but right now my life is such a mess to the point where im literally running out of options. I've tried my best for the past two months to keep thinking positively but it always stops and i go back into the cycle of thinking negatively. I was a heavy drug user and cannabis helped but it ruined my mentality and is probably one of the reasons why im so anxious and paranoid.

I would of loved to have taken xanax or valium but here in the UK they are cautious at handing out to people my age. I just need breathing space from my sensitive emotions as they are taking the best of me and its gotten to a point where i cannot deal with it.

I just need to get passed the first two weeks of crappy side effects and then i think i'll be 'okay' and ready to head back into the world again even though ive been looking for jobs for 2 months and still have nothing!

I just hope this works out better than the last time i took an anti depressant.

keep eating those pills, thats exactly what TPTB big pharma companies want you to do.
