WEST UNION, Iowa --- A 12-year veteran of the Iowa State Patrol was arrested Friday on complaints that he broke into the home of woman with the intent to sexually assault her while in possession of a weapon.

Mikel Lam Yauk, no age provided, of Oelwein, was placed on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of the case, said Col. Patrick J. Hoye, chief of the Iowa State Patrol.

According to the criminal complaint, the incident happened about 11:30 p.m. Wednesday at a home in West Union.

The complaint said Yauk entered the home of an unidentified woman while she was sleeping. The victim said she woke up and found Yauk in her bedroom naked from the waist down. He then put back on his clothing and told her "this is the way it could have been."
