A meteor 60 miles away made a flash that looked like a welding light in a garage ! We saw the flash but found videos on it the next day and it was over 60 miles away ! Security cameras recorded the flash ! My mother is not into conspiracies and does not know much about space weather, satellites, meteors, ect. Here is how it happened: She was driving from Fayetteville to Little Rock. At around 7:00am both her and my step-father saw something plumeting towards earth that startled them so much they ended up pulling over. She said it was so large it looked to be about the size of a coke can in the sky if the can was held outstretched in your hand away from your face. Both her and my step-father said that they say green, yellow, and a large tail. Most important they said it was moving fast, really fast, and they say it went down near the horizon which means impact was likely. They were near Winslow, AR. I will post the map below. This means that the thing is in Devils Den state park or Ozark Nation Forrest. I live up north or I would already be there. I want to find this fucking thing and prove we are the fastest communications network once and for all. It came in fast so if someone saw it that would be great, but you would have to have been looking withing the same 30 seconds. [link to maps.google.com] On October 23, sunrise occured at 7:01 AM in Fayetteville. At 6:12 AM CDT a flare from Iridium 97 was visible from Winslow, Arkansas. The Iridum satellite is a constellation of low Earth orbit communications satellites. Flares happen when the antennas on the satellite catch the sunlight and a short, few second brightening, occurs. From the location you provided the magnitude was -4 but, depedning on the exact location, the magnitude could have been as high as -8 which is much brighter than Venus. I live in South East Arkansas and I was looking up into the sky just looking at clouds and watching for planes. I didn't expect to see anything but something shiny caught my eye. It was sort of far away, so I don't know what it was, but whatever it was spinning. First it was black and then it would be really shiny, then it would spin around to the black side again. I was thinking it must be a mylar ballon but anyway, this is what I saw. |

My mother is not into conspiracies and does not know much about space weather, satellites, meteors, ect. Meaning the lack of knowledge must be taken into account when evaluating the observation. You did not provide age but age must be considered and age related eye problems. Most important they said it was moving fast, really fast, and they say it went down near the horizon which means impact was likely Since the eye has a theoretical parallax limit of 4 kilometers (and practically much less), judging distances beyond that cannot be determined without using contextual information. Since you already said your mother has no knowledge of space objects the ability to judge distances and a location of impact are limited using context. The two possibilities are a meteor or the known Iridium 97 flare (not flair). You did not mention angular distance above the horizon but the Iridium satellite was around 40 degrees above the horizon at the time of the flare (they are seen at sunrise and sunset) but the exact angle depends on the exact location of the observation. From the location you provided the satellite would have been somewhere between west and north and it would of been traveling down. Most meteors, even bright ones, burn up around 50 miles above the ground and never reach the ground. This is the peak of the Orionid meteor shower In either case, the observation does not necessarily mean an impact occurred. Meteor impacts do occasionally occur but not necessarily so for every meteor streak seen. Impacts are rare. F=ma |

I believe this because they saw a trail on it so it would have burning up upon re-entry. There was a meteor shower this past weekend, but this thing was visible in daylight (early morning), and based on the size described, it would have to be a nice sized rock that hit. Reentering meteors can look bigger than they are because of the intense light given off. She actually just texted me this morning to see if I dug up anything on what it could have been. To address an earlier question about her eyesight (lol), she is only 50 and her vision is fine. When she first described it, I was like, "hell yeah ROSAT satellite just reentered.” Then I jumped online and they said it came in over northern Thailand. I am going to try to figure out today which way it was going in relation to them driving. That should narrow down the impact region. Remember, even if it is a space rock, they can be worth a shit ton of money. |

I can be at Devils Den in about 30 minutes. But, the last thing you want to do, is go running around the Ozarks without direction. These woods are very unforgiving! How long before or after sunrise? How far above the horizon? There is one other possibility. An aircraft that momentarily caught a solar glint (reflection) and they saw a short contrail. My guess is a meteor about the size of a basketball on impact. People have recoved ones like this before after sightings. I am contacting a guy I know that is a professional fishing and hunting guide down there. I am also working to narrow down where it hit to a search area that is realistic. My step father did make note of the exit they were passing when he saw it and about where they think it went down. Email me on the site if your interested because I am going to set up a team to go look for this thing. I am that sure that its there. The payout is big on stuff like this, metorites fetch more than drugs per gram in many cases. I can get down there for a week in the fall, its better to wait to the folliage has cleared and I can get access to metal detectors. |

An iron meteor 1 foot in diameter (basketball sized) would leave a crater 10 foot in diameter and 3 foot deep. A stony meteor that size would not make it to the surface. F=ma |
