A couple months ago I took my 2 kids bowling and didn't have enough cash so I raided the piggy bank of coins. Got to the bowling alley and started to pay for the rental shoes with the coins and the smart ass women told me they didn't accept coins as payment for shoes or bowling. My kids did NOT get to bowl. They were disappointed but I was irate. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 1283316 Canada 11/03/2011 09:19 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | There is no legal requirement to accept change, and businesses can choose to exclude even certain bills. It is not uncommon around here to see signs that read "We do not accept $50 and $100 bills." This is due to the high rate of counterfeit money in circulation. As for change, it holds up the line while the cashier has to count it all (even if rolled, who in their right mind would take a stranger's word that the roll contained the full amount, especially if any shortfall came out of your own pocket? |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1454141 And plenty of businesses here even prefer that, as the more they would have for change too. yes well put ... debt is waived if not accepted The coin maching will accept it - unless they're slugs. If she doesn't want to bother paying the small fee the coin machine guy charges, then she can file suit. Assets feed you, liabilities eat you. |

Sounds to me like some clerk was being a lazy asshole and didn't want to count out the change. Sometimes your employees do asshole things that you don't exactly authorize. But the store manager really has no excuse, IMO. Glad it all worked out well in the end. That her kids got to eat is the most important thing! No more requests in the "Strangest things" thread please. :hf: Past Lives requests thread: Thread: That Which Once Was: Past Lives |

Quoting: HANGFIRE that is crap. i doubt it is a problem with everyone paying with change as to where they couldnt store it. it is a judgement call if that is the case. you see a woman with her kids excited to bowl and turn them away? i would think they could have easily put the change in the office if the register wouldnt hold it. the problem is that no one cares about their customers anymore. from private owned to the big corps. customer service is a lost art. there may be a good reason for that. everyone is entitled now. everyone wants something for nothing. but this is definitely a disgrace. i feel bad for those kids. i am sure their mother was very frustrated. |

Government should issue coin counting vouchers or write legislation that businesses should count my coins for free. After all "it's for the children". Oh wait, banks will count your coins for free and exchage them for bills, provided that you have an account. |

Yeah you do , could sell that for melt value and get a lot more money than face value |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 2818807 United States 06/06/2012 02:53 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | people who bring rolls or bags of coins to business deserve to be turned away. First, would you accept 6 pounds of change for your 20 dollar bill? I doubt it. Most registers can't hold more than a few dollars of change Most business don't always have money on hand to accept 20$ of change... they are not a bank. Only stupid places keep large amounts of cash on floor. Most customers don't want to wait behind someone in line for a worker to count out more than 5$ of change... after 5... it's rude Do you ever sell, take, buy or use rolls of coins personally? I don't. Banks and money exchangers do that. |

If they dont they should not give change back for purchases. In fact tom Im taking my penny jar to the store to buy grocercies! Im going to fill the cart slam full of meat and dairy products so if they turn me down they have to put back the items in a hurry so they wont go bad! EVERYBODY SHOULD DO THIS!A |
