New NYC OEM e-mail 11-07 states "If an emergency prevents you or your family from returning home" Do They Know Something?

I am finding the timing of this email, sent out today to NYC residents, to be noteworthy:

If an emergency prevents you or your family from returning home, everyone should know where to meet.

If you have accessed the email, you will see that they are throwing out a suggestion to consider designating your polling place as a meeting place. Although polling sites are not necessarily located in evacuation zones, the suggestiion is reasonable as a place to gather.

Last week, when the "El Heirro" thread got particularly ominous, I called the NYC department of OEM to ask if they were monitoring the events in the Canary Islands, knowing that I am about 1000' from shore, and, only at 100" elevation.

The guy on the phone said that OEM tracks 'every conceivable' thing that could effect the city. He added that NYC is prepared to move out the population should the need ever occur.

Knowing that traffic running the island that I live on would make escape by car pretty hopeless, when I asked him if OEM would actually send out an email alert--which could cause panic in a metropolitan area of 22 million people (his tally) should TSHTF--he added:

ANYONE CAN WALK OUT OF THE CITY IN SIX to EIGHT HOURS TIME, should evacuation be necessary.


While I'm not even remotely suggesting that this OEM TIP OF THE WEEK has anything to do with El Hierro, as I've already said, the TIMING of this message seems noteworthy, considering the number of potential dooms we are tracking here on GLP>

Until this email, I have been lightheartedly looking forward to 11.12.11 dawning unscathed. Now I don't know WHAT to think!
