No my answer is not yes. If I felt like doing something that I would find embarrassing or illegal, I would kick your ass out of my house, since it is a private home. Why would I do this? Because I can, and I have an expectation of privacy. You don't nor have that in a public space. Two completely different scenarios. What can you do currently in public parking lot that you can't do in a public parking lot with a camera?

What can they possibly "track" about you in a walmart parking lot? You park, walk in the store, walk out. What is there to track?

Also, what freedoms am I sacrificing or giving up? It's a camera, in a parking lot, that is not stopping me from doing anything. So, what freedoms are lost or given up?

Bro, this video was taken at the Walmart on hwy 70 right beside Sams club. I have no clue how you could have missed it.
They have had this police state tower for 2 or 3 years now.
They move it back and forth from Walmart to the top of the Valley Hills mall right down the road.
Today is 11/10/11 and i was at that very Walmart around 5pm. Its there now.... and has been since the 1st of Oct.
Its NOT used by Walmart security guard flunkies... its always manned with a Hickory police officer. The cop car is always parked directly under it.

You people want to know WHY this things i sitting at Walmart and the mall? Simple.. those are the 2 most occupied businesses in this area.... and they know this. Its a typical tactic used to desensitize the public so when marshal law is placed upon us... these towers wont be a "shock" to the sheeple.


BTW... If you where to sneak up to this thing at night - You can 'crash' it using a simple part of wire cutters.
It uses hydraulic's to lift it... slice the hoses that ARE exposed... and BOOM... the thing comes straight down and i mean FAST! Also, if you want to flip it over... thats even easier!

I know that here, during the holidays (and I'd say especially with crime on the upswing due to the crashing economy and people unable to buy things and more theft and robbery possible) there has been more parking lot crime during holidays, with break-ins of cars holding gifts as people go from store to store in the dark, wee hours, especially black Friday type sales and such when everyone is buying big-ticket items one after the other. It is possible that they find this a good solution to security for such a large area. We had some sad stories about those types of thefts happening last year here in San Diego. Not that I like the police state developments any more than the next person. But as our technology evolves, so do the applications of technology in regard to security issues.

If they put those and razor wire around all the ghetto areas across the US it would solve a lot of shit!

Wow, the foolish fear-mongering going on . . . while it may not be ideal for anyone, especially good citizens, to deal with the idea of cameras on every corner and these towers in parking lots, the truth is - it's happening and there is nothing any of us can do about it. As someone who's always believed in fighting for causes and not backing down, I've learned that because there'e too much going on, you can't fight everything . . . you have to pick and choose the battles.

As for these towers . . . they are only used here in the DFW area around the holidays because of the increase in crime, and other times in areas where crime is a problem year-round.

If you shop at a store located in an area with a crime problem, you should be thankful the authorities are watching for activity.

So what you SHOULD be pissed off about is the increase in crime and who is involved and why . . . bitch at the gov for outsourcing, for spending money on war, for supporting every damn foreign country, and denying AMERICAN CITIZENS the right to good jobs and good pay . . . be pissed off at the minorities (with the highest crime rates) and their reckless breeding for numbers . . . you see, there are many things you should be working to make better and then, the guard towers wouldn't be necessary.

Not everything that goes on now is "big brother" . . . don't be narrow-minded!

I'll take a grove of trees any day. Sure would make picking off the guy sitting in that contraption rather elementary, truth be told.

I was born and raised in Memphis, Tennessee, which at one point was considered the "murder capital" of the country (on a per capita basis).

I watched once great areas of town decline with the rapidly changing demographics, and was actually surpised when we did not hear of a shooting or murder on any given day. Even in some of the nicer neighborhoods, it wasn't uncommon to hear automatic gufire late at night.

That said, the Mall of Memphis was one of the best malls in the city when it was delivered, in a very stable middle income neighborhood. Before its final demise, however, it (and the area) had devolved to such a point, we all called it the Mall of Murder. In time, hardly anyone even shopped there because of it; however, for a time, they started placing these police contraptions throughout the parking lots. This very rapidly eliminated the criminal activity, and the mall actually started seeing a pretty good uptick in activity again. After this, they ended the program, and the mall quickly died shortly thereafter; however, whenever they were posted (downtown or at some event), we Memphians actually appreciated them, and the police patrolling around them.

It's too bad Memphis declined to that point, but these contraptions do not necessarily mean we've entered a police state. In fact, they can be a good thing if warranted - which is precisely why the police probably placed them where they did (most likely at the request of the retailer).

Now if or when they start macing folks, and indiscriminantly arresting them for no real reason (which seems to be the case more often than not as of late), then we can begin to worry about the police. Until then, worry more about the lowlife scum, the real reason behind the towers.

In other words, until we see more, this is a non-event and probably actually a good thing....
