How do Canadians make sure their cars will start, in the morning?

Do you have engine-block heaters, like in Scandinavia?

yeah... that sucked. ALTHOUGH, I must admit, I laughed my BALLS off on the way in because this asshole behind me in this huge friggen hurry in a Saturn SUV comes flying around me as I move to the left turn lane only to be stopped by the same red light as me, just at that same moment ALL of the snow slides down from his roof covering the windshield and forcing him to get out to clean it off.


I laughed the rest of the way to work.

Yes we have block heaters, I had a friend come up from Cali who thought all of our cars were electric, lol.

All the parking lots are electrified. If you are unlucky enough not to have plug access, then during the really cold spells, you better be out there starting your car every 4 hours or she won't go.

Years ago, I used to carry a hibachi bbq in my trunk in the winter.
I'd fire it up and put it under the oil pan to heat the oil. Worked like a charm.

My sisters in BC thought I was nuts.

I live in upstate NY so your southern border I guess... our south would never think of this kinda stuff. In fact I once bought a Florida car and not even thinking about it discovered in the middle of its first (and last) winter that it didnt have Rear Defrost! never occured to me that cars came with out that.

Right now in Sweden it is 11 degrees C. Extremely hot for the season and no snow ofcourse. I'm at 60 North.

They won't let you register a lot of foreign cars here unless you bring them up to code, if you can't see you can't drive.

You probably get more snow than us, but much milder temps.

Sigh, its that first adjustment of the winter and all the crap that goes with it.

Looking just a little white here in Very far Northern California at 4,500 ft elevation..Just freezing here, but not much moisture in this storm.

Oh god I forgot about people doing that. I've been away from Minnesota for a long time now. Plus I never had a car. But yeah, I've heard of people doing that!

When people get older they are more and more willing to pay for covered parking . . (meaning, indoor, heated parking)

I'm sure you must have your own challenges dealing with mountainous area winters. Does the scenery make up for the winters?

I find myself weighing the benefits of staying where I am as of late.

Beautiful here. Far Northern Ca. is very forested,big cedars,firs and pines,,lots of wildlife..

Seldom have more then 1 to 3 ft of snow on the ground..Once a yr we get a big storm,,maybe 3 ft of snow..Lowest Winter temps are 10 t0 12 F at night.More typical is high 20's to low 40's on winter nights..

Great summers and falls..And folks tend to be friendly and non-intrusive..Tiny local town.

If you want to head further South.. Check out Shingletown,Ca.and Lassen Park. Mostly a retirement, vacation area..Lots of deep woods,meadows,lakes and streams here..

Nearest big town is Redding,,about 70,000 and about 50 miles from Shingletown..
